Experiments to induce congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) in rats, by means of administering a single dose of 2,4-dichlorophenyl-P-nitrophenyl (Nitrofen) on the 10th day of gestation, are reported here. Previously, congenital diaphragmatic hernia has been induced in sheep late in fetal development, and in mice early in gestation. From 1975 to 1982, 25 evaluable patients with FIGO Stage I ovarian cancer were treated with intraperitoneal chromic phosphate (32P). All patients underwent total abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy with (28%) or without (72%) omentectomy, with no other surgical staging procedures prior to referral. Nemaline rod myopathy is an inherited congenital myopathy first described in 1963. Affected patients characteristically present in infancy with a non-progressive hypotonia and symmetrical muscle weakness. Results with the use of a diaphragmatic graft in the surgical relief of achalasia are reported for 44 patients. The operative technique involves construction of a pedicle flap of diaphragm the size of the muscular defect on the lower segment of the esophagus and suture of the transplanted diaphragmatic pedicle to the site of the esophageal muscular defect.
