PURPOSE: To characterize the clinical picture with vestibular schwannoma, we retrieved 122 patients with vestibular schwannoma from the vestibular unit of the Helsinki University Central Hospital.
PROCEDURES: The patients filled out a questionnaire concerning their symptoms, earlier diseases, accidents, and the use of tobacco and alcohol. Tamsulosine, an alphablocker, is moderately effective on the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Its adverse effects are of the same order as those of other alphablockers already on the market in France (alfuzosine and prazosine); there is notably a risk of postural hypotension. There is no proof that the risk-benefit ratio of tamsulosine is any better than that of other alphablockers or 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors (finasteride).

Newly admitted paranoid schizophrenic patients (N = 68) were treated with either loxapine or chlorpromazine for up to 4 weeks. Mean maximum dosages were 84 mg/day of loxapine and 820 mg/day of chlorpromazine. Loxapine showed efficacy superior to that of chlorpromazine, confirming earlier retrospective findings. Adverse reactions were also less troublesome with loxapine.
