Cytoenzymological-cytogenetical correlations concerning chronic granulocytic leukemia leucocytes.

By means of histochemical demonstration of dihydrofolate reductase activity and chromosomal analysis, peripheral white blood cells from patients with chronic granulocytic leukemia were studied in vitro cultures grown on normal leucocytes feeder-layers. After 14 days of incubation, two different types of colonies were found corresponding to the leukemic and normal leucocytic populations: (a) made up of Ph'-positive leucocytes which have a high dihydrofolate reductase activity; (b) made up of Ph'-negative leucocytes, slightly positive for dihydrofolate reductase activity.

Cytomorphological, ultrastructural and immunological characteristics of the ovialsyn fluid in seropositive rheumatoid arthritis.

Experiments have been performed on 15 samples of synovial fluid (SF) from patients with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis (RA) (Latex 1/280 and Waaler Rose 1/1024) versus 10 SF samples from patients with hydroarthrosis, used as control. By cytomorphologic studies, we determined the cellularity, ragocytosis and synoviocytogram of the SF cellular pellet and found out that rheumatoid SF is characterized by cytosis (9953/mm3), ragocytosis (70%) and polynucleosis (73%) whereas hydroarthrotic SF is characterized by lymphocytosis (54.6%). Cytomorphological, ultrastructural and immunological particularities of the synovial fluid in seronegative rheumatoid arthritis.

Our studies on the cytomorphological and ultrastructural analysis of 15 Synovial Fluid (SF) samples from patients diagnosed with seronegative Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and 10 SF from patients with Hydroarthrosis considered as controls were carried out. By cytomorphological studies we determined the cellularity, ragocytosis and synoviocytogram. SF in seronegative RA is characterized by leucocytosis (7,656/mm3) with polynucleosis (65.38%) and ragocytosis (59.27%) versus hydroarthrosis SF defined morphologically by lymphocytosis (47%). The anatomo-clinical study of the deaths caused by meningoencephalitis at the Infectious Diseases Clinics in Bucharest in 1986 and 1987 showed the increase of morbidity, 194 lethal cases being registered. Acute experimental pancreatitis--morphological evidence for the development of a multiple organ failure syndrome.

In order to evaluate the systemic lesions during acute pancreatitis (AP) we produced the disease in rats by ligation of the common biliopancreatic duct. The animals were killed at 4, 24, 48 hours and at 7 days. Serum values of amylase appear increased 24 hours after common biliopancreatic duct ligation, decreased after 48 hours and remain at a low range at 7 days. Morphological and biochemical characteristics in the experimentally treated rats with indigenous synthetical products used as pesticides.

In acute experimental intoxication with 3 indigenous pesticides (Tripinacloraz, Lemax and Maleic Hydrazide-Na salt) the changes of some biochemical parameters, reflecting the degree of hepatic structural alterations, were studied. The pesticides were administered by gastric gavage in a single dose close to DL50 to Wistar male rats. Effect of dibutyrylo cyclic AMP on glycocalyx formation in the intestinal epithelial cells of salivectomised mice.

Effect of dibutyryl cyclic AMP on glycocalyx formation in intestinal epithelial cells of salivectomised mice was studied. After salivectomy, a marked reduction of glycocalyx layer on the surface of microvilli was noted. Twenty four hours after the first injection of dibutyrylo cyclic AMP, restoration of the thick layer of glycocalyx was confirmed. The results obtained suggest that dibutyrylo cyclic AMP regulates the synthesis of glycocalyx in Golgi complex.

Malignant lymphomatoid granulomatosis infiltrating myocardium and producing sudden death.

The case of a 70 year old man suddenly deceased by myocardial lesions produced by a malignant pulmonary lymphomatoid granulomatosis is reported. The light microscopic pattern of the pulmonary, lymph node and myocardial lesions showed a polymorphous immunoblastic lymphoma.

While international guidelines on oncofertility practice have been published in developed countries, there is limited information available on oncofertility practice in developing countries, which often face limitations in their cancer health support networks. As survival rates improve in the field of cancer and other diseases, there is a growing need for stronger oncofertility services in developing countries. Given that 50% of cancer patients are under the age of 65, many of these patients are of reproductive age and preserving their fertility health prior to starting treatment is valuable.

The evolution of human periodontal tissues with ageing.

In this research, the structural modifications with ageing of clinically healthy periodontal tissues were analyzed by means of polarization microscopy and morphometrical methods for light microscopy. The new findings may be summarized as follows. The periodontal ligament was found to be widened in the cervical and apical regions. The thickening of cementum with ageing was shown to be accompanied by a modification in the shape of Sharpey's fibres, which in the elderlies were wavy instead of straight as in the control. Magnetic resonance (MR) evaluation of bone marrow in vertebral bodies.

Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging was used to examine the hematopoietic bone marrow in the vertebral bodies of eight healthy subjects, and of 35 cancer patients who had been previously treated with radiation therapy. MR was instrumental in distinguishing viable hematopoietic tissue (red marrow) from adipose tissue (yellow marrow), whose presence reflected the extent of radiation-induced bone marrow injury.
