We designed lumbar spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis single segment reduction fixation system according to neural arch measured in the 46 dried specimen. The biomechanical tests showed that its strength is 1.6 times that of Hefti's technique, 2.7 times that of Salib's technique. It used contacted point lamina by lamina hook as fulcrum, through lever and pedicle screw to pull back olisthetic vertebrae. 18 patients were treated with this method. The displacemen rate was 26.67% before operation and 3.38% after operation. The height of disc was 14.94 mm before operation and 17.08 mm after operat

INTRODUCTION: The goal of this study was to investigate the clinical utility of radiographs at all time points after internal fixation of lower extremity fractures.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review was conducted at a level I trauma center. Four hundred eighty-five patients with 586 fractures of the femur, tibia, and ankle were included. Data were analyzed to investigate the effect of radiographs on changes in management at all postoperative time points for each fracture type.
RESULTS: Each fracture received, on average, 4.8 radiographs after fixation for a total cost of $938,469. The ma

Because patients with metastatic bone disease may survive only 3 to 12 months, the goal of surgery for pathologic fractures is to attain rigid and durable internal fixation and immediate postoperative use of the upper extremity. Surgical options such as intramedullary nailing, plating, and insertion of prosthesis usually reinforced with bone cement have been proposed for pathological humeral fractures. We describe a 42-year-old man with a pathologic distal humeral fracture. The fracture location and lack of distal bone stock precluded the use of intramedullary nails. We performed minimally inv

It is widely accepted that operative fixation of unstable ankle fractures yields predictably good outcomes in the general population. The current literature, however reports less acceptable results in the geriatric population age 65 years and older. The current study analyzes the outcome of the surgical treatment of unstable ankle fractures in patients at least 65 years old. Twenty three patient over 65 years old were surgically treated after sustaining 21 (91%) closed and 2 (9%) open grade II unstable ankle fractures. Fractures were classified according to the Danis-Weber and Lauge-Hansen sch

Displaced transverse fractures of the olecranon commonly are treated by open reduction and internal fixation using the AO tension band wiring technique. Reports that the AO technique has a tendency to open the fracture site at the articular surface prompted Rowland and Burkhart to modify placement of the tension band. The present study tested the hypothesis that the modified wire placement provides static compression anteriorly, and hence better reduction at the articular surface of the fracture, than the AO technique under static conditions. Transverse olecranon fractures were created on 8 pa

Unicondylar fractures of the lower end of the femur are uncommon injuries that usually occur in the saggital plane 2. Coronal (tangential) plane fractures, first described by Hoffa in 1904, are unusual.(1,2, 3,4) We report our experience with three cases and the mechanism of injury is discussed. Open reduction and internal fixation is mandatory for good long-term results.

Nine cases of ipsilateral humeral shaft and forearm fractures in multiply injured patients were reviewed in an attempt to ascertain the preferred management of these complex injuries. Satisfactory anatomic and functional results were achieved only in those cases treated by rigid internal fixation of the humeral fractures. Nonoperative management is associated with a significant risk of malunion or nonunion of the humerus.

BACKGROUND: Internal fixation is recommended for treating Vancouver B1 periprosthetic femoral fractures. Although several fixation procedures have been developed with high fixation stability and union rates, long-term weight-bearing constructs are still lacking. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the stability of a double-plate procedure using reversed contralateral locking compression-distal femoral plates for fixation of Vancouver B1 periprosthetic femoral fractures under full weight-bearing.
METHODS: Single- and double-plate fixation procedures for locking compression-

Over one half of radial neck fractures are associated with other injuries about the elbow. Most radial neck fractures can be treated with closed reduction or with percutaneous probing, even if the other associated injuries require open reduction. The results are good, although radiologic imperfections may be seen after healing. In the older child, olecranon fractures that have significant displacement usually require open reduction with internal fixation.

The closed as well as the operative treatment of fractures of the skeleton of the hand during growth must take into consideration the growth potential of the bones. It is particularly important in its potential to correct shortening as well as axial deviation and angulation (except rotational deformity). There are, however, limits to this potential as shown in epiphyseal fractures. Modern internal fixation has, therefore, an important -- though very restricted -- place in the treatment of these epiphyseal fractures. Other rare indications are mentioned.

BACKGROUND Failed patellar fracture fixation is rare, and is usually attributed to technical errors. There are no specific details available on how to address this problem. We present our two-tension-band technique for fixing patellar fractures. MATERIAL AND METHODS Between March 2010 and March 2013, 4 men and 2 women with failed fixation patellar fractures were treated in our department. Their average age was 34 years (range 23-49 years). The initial fracture type was C1 in 3, C2 in 1, and C3 in 2, according to the AO classification. The initial fracture patterns included 3 transverse and 3 c

The timing of definitive fixation for major fractures in polytrauma patients is controversial. We investigated the outcome of the Sheffield hybrid system (SHF) as a solution in the role of primary and definitive fixator for patient with open femoral fractures in whom definitive osteosynthesis with intramedullary nail can be associated with higher rate of complications. Eleven patients (7 men and 4 women), mean age of 40.4 years (range 14-75 years) with previous injury severity score (ISS) greater than or equal to 16 were treated from a damage control orthopedics perspective. Time in the fixato

Fractures of the scaphoid are most commonly seen in young males where immobilisation in a cast will lead to a prolonged period away from work and from athletic activities. Early rigid fixation has recently been advocated to promote a rapid functional recovery. Open reduction and internal fixation of the scaphoid is however technically demanding, damages the anterior radiocarpal ligaments, violates the scapho trapezial joint, further endangers the already compromised blood supply of the scaphoid and not infrequently leads to troublesome hypertrophic scars. These problems can be overcome in mini

INTRODUCTION: Anterior fracture dislocation of the humerus with an anatomical neck fracture is an uncommon injury. These injuries pose a significant risk of devastating complications, such as avascular necrosis of the humeral head, due to the poor vascularization of the area, and stiffness resulting from prolonged immobilization.
CLINICAL PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 20-year-old female who was involved in a motor vehicle crash and sustained an anterior fracture dislocation of the humerus with an anatomical neck fracture. The injury was successfully managed with open reduction and inter

A series of 166 perilunate dislocations and fracture-dislocations from 7 centers was retrospectively studied. The diagnosis was missed initially in 41 cases (25%). A classification system was presented. The perilunate fracture-dislocations were more frequent than the perilunate dislocations at a ratio of two to one. The displacement was dorsal in 161 cases (97%) and palmar in only 5 (3%). The dorsal transscaphoid perilunate fracture-dislocations represented 96% of the dorsal perilunate fracture-dislocations and 61% of the whole series. The clinical and radiologic outcome of 115 perilunate disl

BACKGROUND: Pediatric proximal femoral tumors often present with accumulative and severe bone destruction and are often complicated by pathological fractures and malunion. Such tumors are treated clinically by lesion scraping and graft reconstruction with autologous iliac bone alone or in combination with artificial bone. This study aimed to determine the efficacy of the Locking Compression Pediatric Hip Plate™ in treating pediatric proximal femoral tumors.
METHODS: From 2012-2017, the Locking Compression Pediatric Hip Plate™ was applied for internal fixation in 28 children in the Department

BACKGROUND: Maxillofacial fractures are common in polytrauma, and these patients often require intensive care unit (ICU) admission until delayed definitive surgical management. This review aims to evaluate the scientific evidence on timing of definitive internal fracture fixation of maxillofacial fractures in polytrauma. We hypothesise that delayed definitive surgery is associated with better outcomes. METHODS: This systematic review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA protocol. MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, CINAHL and PubMed were searched from inception to July 2025 for articles in English
