Outcome of transtibial AperFix system in anterior cruciate ligament injuries.

BACKGROUND: The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the major stabilizing factor of the knee that resist anterior translation, valgus and varus forces. ACL is the most commonly ruptured ligament of the knee. The graft fixation to bone is considered to be the weakest link of the reconstruction. According to the parallel forces to the tibial drill hole and the quality of tibial metaphyseal bone is inferior to femoral bone stock, graft fixation to the tibia is more difficult to secure. AperFix system (Cayenne Medical, Inc., Scottsdale, Arizona, USA) which consists femoral and tibial compon

Reliability of classifications derived from Cyriax's resisted testing in subjects with painful shoulders and knees.

STUDY DESIGN: Intrarater and interrater reliability. OBJECTIVES: Examine intrarater and interrater reliability of the resisted-testing component of Cyriax's selective tension testing for patients with painful shoulders and knees. BACKGROUND: Clinicians make diagnostic and intervention decisions about lesions in contractile tissues based on resisted testing. Diagnostic and intervention decisions require reliable data gathering, especially when more than 1 physical therapist manages a patient. No studies have examined agreement of the results of the resisted tests used in selective tension tes

Knee strength symmetry at 4 months is associated with criteria and rates of return to sport after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: Strength limb symmetry index (LSI) is a useful criterion to help in return-to-sport performance (RTP) after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). OBJECTIVES: We aimed to assess whether knee extensor and flexor LSI values at 4 months after ACLR are associated with those recommended at 8 months after ACLR for RTP (80%, 85% and 90%) and with successful RTP after 2 years. METHODS: This was prospective cohort study of 113 participants who underwent primary ACLR. Personal factors such as demographic and sport information, injury and surgery characteristics were collected at

Effects of visual deprivation on the injury of lower extremities among functional ankle instability patients during drop landing: A kinetics perspective.

Background: The ankle is prone to injury during drop landing with usual residual symptoms, and functional ankle instability (FAI) is the most common. Vision guarantees the postural stability of patients with FAI, and visual deprivation (VD) increases their risk of injury when completing various movements. This study explored injury risk during drop landing in patients with FAI under VD through the kinetics of lower extremities. Methods: A total of 12 males with FAI participated in the study (age, 23.0 ± 0.8 years; height, 1.68 ± 0.06 m; weight, and 62.2 ± 10.4 kg) completed single-leg drop lan

Semitendinosus Autograft Reconstruction for Neglected Patellar Tendon Rupture: Technical Simplicity with Excellent Outcome.

INTRODUCTION: Patellar tendon rupture is an uncommon but disabling injury, often resulting from eccentric quadriceps contraction or trauma. Chronic ruptures (>3 weeks) present a reconstructive challenge due to patellar migration, scarring, and tendon retraction, making primary repair inadequate. Various graft options exist; autologous semitendinosus provides a strong, biologically compatible solution with minimal morbidity. CASE REPORT: A 42-year-old man presented 8 weeks post-injury with left knee instability and inability to extend the leg following a fall. Examination revealed patella alta

Pilot study: Effects of ovariectomy-induced estrogen deficiency on the biomechanical and structural properties of the intact anterior cruciate ligament in a porcine model.

INTRODUCTION: This pilot study investigated the effects of ovariectomy-induced estrogen deficiency on the biomechanical properties of intact anterior cruciate ligaments (ACLs) in a porcine model, a biological condition that may influence ligament integrity and injury susceptibility. METHODS: A bilateral ovariectomy model was used to induce systemic estrogen deficiency. Fourteen two-month-old female pigs were included. Four pigs (8 knees) underwent bilateral ovariectomy (OV group). The left knees of 10 pigs that underwent laparotomy without ovariectomy for a separate study were analyzed as con

Enhancing functional recovery after ACL injury. A protocol for a randomized control trial of transcranial direct current stimulation over the motor cortex.

INTRODUCTION: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears are common in athletic and nonathletic populations, often resulting from activities involving rapid directional changes that place stress on the knee. Although advances in surgery and rehabilitation have improved recovery, many patients still struggle to regain pre-injury performance and face increased risk of re-injury. We hypothesize that combining standard rehabilitation with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) may accelerate recovery, improve neuromuscular control, and strengthen key muscles like the hamstrings and hip abducto

Elucidating the environmental risk factors for rheumatic diseases: An umbrella review of meta-analyses.

AIMS: Although rheumatic diseases constitute a leading cause of disability, the environmental risk factors for these diseases are not clarified. In the present study, we aim to systematically appraise the epidemiological credibility of the environmental risk factors for rheumatic diseases. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed to capture meta-analyses of observational studies on environmental risk factors for the most prevalent rheumatic diseases. For each association, we estimated the summary effect size estimate, the 95% confidence and prediction intervals, and the I2 metric. We furthe
