Injury prevention strategies for child bicyclists have focused on helmet use to prevent head trauma. Handlebars are another source of injury. A retrospective review from 2005 identified 385 admissions to a Level 1 pediatric trauma center of which 23 (5.9%) were pedal cyclists. Four cases (<1.0%) of handlebar injuries were identified. We present the results of a retrospective study based on a cohort of 140 patients who underwent endoscopic CO(2) laser excision for previously untreated early glottic cancer (21 Tis, 96 T1, and 23 T2). Seventeen cases of unilateral or bilateral vocal fold paralysis were diagnosed in infants younger than 12 months from 1991 to 1994 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
