Evidence supports that a variety of cancers are sparked by the growth of cells that exhibit characteristics of stem cells. Such cancer-initiating cells are capable of populating a tumor with a heterogeneous group of daughter cells while still maintaining the ability to self-renew. Several groups have recently reported the identification of cancer-initiating cells in ovarian cancer, the most lethal gynecologic malignancy. Epithelial ovarian cancer comprises 90% of cancers of the ovary and consists of four major histologic types, each bearing some resemblance to tissues in the peritoneal cavity.

Evidence for age-related effects on wound healing have been derived for the most part from empirical observations without adjustment for confounders other than age. Age-related changes in the structure and function of the skin do occur. Some of these changes result from chronic solar radiation exposure rather than chronological age per se. Listeria monocytogenes can cause circling disease, encephalitis, meningitis, septicemia, and mastitis in dairy cattle. For diagnosis and treatment of small cell lung cancer (SCLC), we have developed two different types of monoclonal antibodies, one of which is useful for specific diagnosis of SCLC.
