A comprehensive analysis reveals the potential risks and molecular connections between aspartame and polycystic ovary syndrome.

The widespread use of aspartame has raised increasing health concerns, particularly regarding its potential endocrine-disrupting effects and a possible association with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a condition marked by endocrine and metabolic abnormalities. This study systematically investigated the molecular mechanisms by which aspartame may contribute to PCOS pathogenesis using a network toxicology approach. A total of 281 common targets between aspartame and PCOS were identified. Protein-protein interaction network analysis and five topological algorithms revealed 20 hub targets signi

Spatiotemporal visualization and exposure-priority assessment of global soil microplastic abundance based on machine learning.

Global soil microplastic (MP) pollution is an emerging environmental concern, yet its large-scale distribution remains difficult to characterize because observations are spatially clustered and environmental relationships are highly nonlinear. We compiled a global soil MP dataset and developed an interpretable ensemble machine learning framework using 500-km spatial blocking and nested spatial cross-validation. Among four tree-based algorithms, CatBoost showed the strongest spatial generalization (mean spatial-CV R2 = 0.587 ± 0.115; pooled out-of-fold R2 = 0.623). SHAP analysis identified soil

Visible-Spectrum Proxy and Texture Features Coupled with Optimized Regression for Predicting Key Minerals in Chinese Wolfberry.

Chinese wolfberry (CW) is a medicinal-food homologous fruit. Key mineral elements are important indicators of the nutritional quality and geographical authenticity of CW. Rapid and non-destructive evaluation of key mineral elements remains challenging because inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is accurate but destructive and laboratory-dependent. In this study, 120 CW batches from Ningxia, Qinghai, Gansu, and Xinjiang were analyzed by combining ICP-MS reference measurements of Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn with standardized RGB image features. Visible-color proxy curves were reconstruc

Lightweight Machine Learning Framework for Cavitation Detection in Submersible Pumps Using Experimental Multi-Sensor Data.

Cavitation is one of the major factors reducing the performance, efficiency, and service life of deep well submersible pumps used in agricultural irrigation systems. Therefore, the early detection of cavitation is essential for improving pump reliability and reducing maintenance costs. In this study, a machine learning-based framework is proposed to detect and classify cavitation conditions using experimental data collected from a deep well pump test unit. Hydraulic and operational parameters were measured under different operating conditions, while the measured noise level was used only to as

Knowledge-Based Feature Selection Substantially Enhances Data-Driven Wastewater Treatment Modeling.

Data-driven modeling in wastewater treatment is increasingly constrained by the reality of small, high-dimensional data, where the abundant monitoring parameters in small-sized data sets obscure fundamental mechanistic understandings. This study proposes a knowledge-driven feature selection framework that integrates mechanistic insights with statistical correlations to identify the most informative predictive features. Using nitrous oxide (N2O) emission prediction at a full-scale plant as a case study, we compared classic deep-learning feature selection algorithms using attention mechanisms ag

Exploring the gut-lung axis in post-liver transplant acute lung injury: A multi-omics approach.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a significant post-operative complication of liver transplant (LT), with mounting evidence suggesting a role for the gut-lung axis. However, the mechanistic link between gut microbiota dysbiosis and ALI pathogenesis in LT recipients remains poorly understood. This hybrid translational investigation integrates transcriptomic profiling (bulk and single-cell RNA-seq), immune infiltration analysis, fecal microbiota composition (16S rRNA), and predictive functional profiling in ALI vs. non-ALI (NALI) LT patients. Machine learning algorithms (LASSO, SVM-RFE, Random Forest)

Handcrafted MRI radiomics of enlarged perivascular spaces and machine learning predict cognitive impairment and sleep disturbance in young adults.

Our study seeks to develop a predictive model using MRI-derived enlarged perivascular spaces (EPVSs) measurements and machine learning to assess cognitive impairment, subjective sleep quality, and excessive daytime sleepiness in young adults with long-time mobile phone use (LTMPU). We enrolled 82 participants and employed a pretrained deep learning model (VB-Net) to automatically segment EPVSs lesions across 17 brain subregions, extracting four handcrafted radiomic features – predefined based on morphological properties – per subregion (EPVSs count, volume, mean length, and mean curvature). Quantum mechanics-based multitensor AI/ML uniquely able to discover, validate, and interpret predictors from small-cohort noisy high-dimensional multiomic data.

Prediction in medicine remains limited. Previously, by using our "comparative spectral decompositions" of two matrices and, separately, two third-order tensors, we demonstrated accurate, precise, actionable, and interpretable tumor whole-genome and, separately, whole-transcriptome predictors-of patients' survival, treatment responses, and drug targets-in different cancers. Here, we introduce a unified framework that generalizes these exact and structure-preserving algorithms to multiple tensors of any order to model real-world data that measure multiple aspects of interrelated phenomena. We pr

Cross-scenario evaluation of explainable machine learning for non-invasive summer occupancy detection across five building scenarios.

Accurate identification of indoor occupant presence is crucial for intelligent building energy management. Traditional monitoring methods are often invasive and lack standardized quantitative indicators. Therefore, this study proposes a non-invasive occupant presence state prediction method based on machine learning. Six machine learning algorithms-Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, k-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Random Forest, CatBoost, and XGBoost-were evaluated across five building scenarios (hospitals, classrooms, dormitories, offices, and dwelling houses) using core environmental features inc

TumorTwin: a Python framework for patient-specific digital twins in oncology.

BACKGROUND: Advances in the theory and methods of computational oncology have enabled accurate characterization and prediction of tumor growth and treatment response on a patient-specific basis. This capability can be integrated into a digital twin framework in which bi-directional data-flow between the physical tumor and the digital tumor facilitate dynamic model re-calibration, uncertainty quantification, and clinical decision-support via recommendation of optimal therapeutic interventions. However, many digital twin frameworks rely on bespoke implementations tailored to each disease site, m

Metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) is a severe condition with high rates of illness and death. Current treatments are limited and not always effective because the cancer responds differently to drugs in different patients. This research aims to use artificial intelligence (AI) to improve treatment by predicting which therapies will work best for individual patients. By analyzing large sets of patient data and using machine learning, we hope to create a model that can identify which patients will respond to chemotherapy, either alone or combined with other targeted treatments. The study will i

Revealing potential interfering genes between abdominal aortic aneurysm and periodontitis through machine learning and bioinformatics analysis.

This study aimed to identify potential interacting genes between abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and periodontitis. To achieve this, we obtained datasets of AAA and periodontitis from the GEO database, conducted differential analysis on the AAA dataset, and performed weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) on the periodontitis dataset to preliminarily identify interacting genes via intersection. Subsequently, we refined key candidate genes by constructing a PPI network and applying three machine learning algorithms. These candidate genes were further validated through external ind

CASynergy: A causal attention model for interpretable prediction of cancer drug synergy.

Cancer drug combination therapies offer a promising strategy to overcome resistance and improve treatment efficacy, but identifying synergistic drug pairs is challenging due to complex biological interactions and tumor heterogeneity. Current machine learning algorithms for drug synergy prediction primarily rely on large-scale, multimodal datasets, yet suffer from critical limitations including poor interpretability, difficulty distinguishing causative biological relationships from correlations, and inadequate modeling of cancer-specific molecular interactions. To address these challenges, we p
