We report 11 patients with cranial nerve dysfunction due to bone metastases from advanced prostatic cancer. Diplopia, speech disturbances, tongue deviation and headache were the typical clinical symptoms. X-ray and/or computed tomography of the base of the skull demonstrated bone destruction (and the surrounding soft tissue tumour) in 8 cases. In 1 patient the bone destruction was visualised only by bone scan. In 2 cases no bone destruction could be demonstrated in spite of the clinical findings. The effects of surgical renal revascularization on both hypertension and kidney function was assessed in 16 patients with renovascular hypertension (14 unilateral). We have taken a special interest to the split renal function studied with DTPA renogram. The function of the operated kidney was improved in 9 patients and not improved (worsened or unchanged) in 7. Hypertension was cured in 25% and improved in 56% of the patients, without correlation with split renal function outcome.

Forty-six patients (23M, 23F) ranging in age from 19 to 79 yr with a clinical history of a nonunion fracture, surgery, diabetes or a soft-tissue infection were studied with [111In]oxine WBCs to detect osteomyelitis. The value of the Technetium-99m tin colloid (TTC) scan in the diagnosis of renal transplant rejection occurring more than 1 month following transplantation was assessed. To our knowledge, use of this agent has not previously been reported. Gamma camera imaging was performed on 15 occasions in 14 patients in whom plasma creatinine was rising and in three patients in whom renal function was stable. In order to detect the varicocele, scrotal scintigraphies by using 99mTc-HSA-D were performed in 14 patients with male infertile or palpable mass in left scrotum on physical examinations. Abnormal pooling of 99mTc-HSA-D, indicative of varicocele lesion, could be found in left scrotum in 9 cases, confirmed surgically or clinically. Compared with 99mTc-HSA, 99mTc-HSA-D was superior in high uptake ratio of varicocele to soft tissue and in nonvisualization of bladder. Thus, 99mTc-HSA-D scrotal scintigraphy seemed to be of a great use to detect the varicocele.

CA-125 is a membrane antigen detected in the serum of some women with gynaecological disease including endometriosis. We attempted to use a radioiodinated anti-CA-125 monoclonal antibody, OC-125, to image ovarian endometriosis using immunoscintigraphy. Two women with significant endometriosis and normal serum CA-125 levels had positive immunoscintigraphy. In one woman, all areas of endometriosis were imaged; in the other, endometriosis in one affected ovary was seen, but uptake in the other ovary was less than the extent of the disease.

Many conditions are known to cause a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) fistula; one of them is lumbar puncture for contrast myelography. Reported here is the case of a man who underwent contrast myelography at the L2-L3 level and who presented with postural headaches and lumbalgia with radiation to the legs three weeks after the procedure. Lymphoscintigraphy was performed at 3 and 20 hr following subcutaneous injection of 131I anti-melanoma antibody (Fab) in 11 patients who had surgical resection of lymph nodes (neck, axilla, groin) at 24 hr for suspected metastatic melanoma. To determine the significance of 67Ga localization in the thymus of children, 142 67Ga photoscans from 45 children with various tumors were studied. Sixty-nine photoscans were taken for 17 cases of lymphoma, 73 photoscans were made for 28 cases of nonlymphoid tumors. Thymic localization of 67Ga was positive in 16 (36%) of the 45 patients and in 30 (21%) of the 142 photoscans. Twenty-seven patients with Crohn's disease were studied for the presence and location of activity by both early (4 h) and delayed (18-24 h) indium 111 leukocyte imaging. The results were compared with other parameters of disease activity including Crohn's disease activity index, barium studies, and endoscopy. In 66 patients with back pain and suspected spondylolysis, the results of bone scintigraphy have been correlated with operative findings and clinical follow-up. Although bone scintigraphy is of little value for primary diagnosis, it helps to distinguish between those patients with established non-union of the defect, and those in whom healing is still progressing and who may benefit from immobilisation. We also found that increased uptake on the contralateral side to a unilateral spondylolysis is suggestive of impending fracture.
