The construction of functionalizable branched DNA (bDNA) relies on the designing of oligonucleotides and exploitation of their complementary … primers of different genes. Additionally, the stability of the bDNA in solutions with different pH, salts, and DNaseI which mimics physiological environment was reported. It was found that genomic sequence derived oligonucleotides self-assembled in a cooperative manner to yield the designed bDNAs, which are stable in physiological environment.

A photoinduced radical difunctionalization of alkenes with Na2S2O5, aryl thianthrenium salts, and H2O to construct β-hydroxysulfones is reported. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions with a broad substrate scope and excellent functional group compatibility, including late-stage modification of drug-like molecules. EPR studies support a radical pathway involving visible-light-induced generation of the aryl radical from thianthrenium salt followed by sulfur dioxide insertion to form the sulfonyl radical intermediate.

A young man with salt-losing nephropathy had the unusual coexistence of hypokalemia caused by secondary hyperaldosteronism. When his NaCl intake was supplemented by 12 g/day (205 mmol), hyperaldosteronism was suppressed and so were his urinary K wasting, hypokalemia, and episodic falling, during an extended follow-up. His findings are compared and contrasted with those in other reported patients with renal salt wasting, and also those in patients with Gitelman and Bartter syndromes.

Intramuscular administration of dibekacin or gentamicin to Fischer rats at doses of 10, 20 and 40 mg/kg for 11 days gave polyuria, enzymuria and cytauria. These changes were suppressed completely or partially by the simultaneous administration of glucarolactam sodium or potassium salt. The ameliorating results were supported by serum and histopathological analyses on day 12. A rise in BUN and serum creatinine levels was partially or completely suppressed and histopathological scores were improved by co-administration of glucarolactam salts.

The possibility of improving iodine deficiency disorder (IDD) in school children in Khon Kaen province was investigated during the period of 1 year, using an operational research approach. Herein we report a practical and efficient copper-catalyzed approach for the conversion of various arenediazonium salts to the corresponding N-protected sulfonimidoyl fluorides. This operationally simple protocol tolerates a wide range of functional groups and can be applied to the late-stage modification of complex bioactive molecules. Furthermore, pharmaceutically important primary sulfonamides and sulfonimidamides derived from these valuable N-protected sulfonimidoyl fluoride units were prepared in minimal synthetic steps.

Metal-ligand cooperative Cp*Ir(iii) complexes derived from primary benzylic amines effectively promote transfer hydrogenation of atmospheric CO2 using 2-propanol at 80 °C. Isotope-labelling experiments strengthen that active Ir species can preferentially reduce bicarbonate congeners formed from CO2. The powerful transfer hydrogenation catalyst exhibits remarkable activity for the conversion of bicarbonates into formate salts with a turnover number up to 3200, even without H2 and CO2.

Calcinosis cutis results from the deposition of insoluble calcium salts in the skin and subcutaneous tissue. Herein, we report a case of extensive metastatic calcinosis cutis in an 18-year-old woman with stage IV Hodgkin lymphoma with skeletal involvement. With combination therapy including radiation directed at her lymphoma and diltiazem, her lesions improved dramatically. This case demonstrates the previously unreported association between calcinosis cutis and Hodgkin lymphoma.

We report a case of idiopathic calcinosis cutis diagnosed by fine needle aspiration cytology in a 50-yr-old female who presented with a subcutaneous swelling near the left iliac crest. Cytological finding of amorphous calcium salts with histiocytes and the appropriate clinical background led to the cytodiagnosis of idiopathic calcinosis cutis as subsequently confirmed on histopathology. Pitfalls in the diagnosis of calcinosis cutis on cytology smears are also discussed.
