In this study, sera from 116 children without clinical evidence of cat scratch disease (CSD) and sera from 19 children with CSD were investigated by two different immunofluorescent assays (test A and test B) to evaluate the seroprevalence of Bartonella henselae antibodies in this population. Antibodies against Bartonella henselae were found in noninfected children only in low titers: 13% and 3.5% of serum samples were positive by test A and test B, respectively. IgG titers as determined by test A ranged from 1:64 to 1:256, whereas test B did not yield titers >1:64. Of the 19 children with CSD,

Chlamydia serology is indicated to investigate etiology of miscarriage, infertility, pelvic inflammatory disease, and ectopic pregnancy. Here, we assessed the reliability of a new automated-multiplex immunofluorescence assay (InoDiag test) to detect specific anti-C. trachomatis immunoglobulin G. Considering immunofluorescence assay (IF) as gold standard, InoDiag tests exhibited similar sensitivities (65.5%) but better specificities (95.1%-98%) than enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs). InoDiag tests demonstrated similar or lower cross-reactivity rates when compared to ELISA or IF.

Antibrucella antibodies were detected by dot-immunoassay with colloid gold label of antigen. The specific antigen was protein-polysaccharide complex (PPC) isolated from vaccine strain Brucella abortus 19 BA by acetic acid hydrolysis of bacterial cells. Dot immunoassay with PPC labeled with colloid gold was effective in testing cattle, rabbit, and human sera for antibrucella antibodies. The proposed test system is simple, economic, highly sensitive and specific, and requires no expensive equipment and reagents, which are its advantages over routine serological tests.

Botulism is a severe, often lethal intoxication, which affects man and animal. It is caused by the neurotoxins (BoNT) of Clostridium botulinum, an anaerobic spore-former. At present the toxin types A-G have been identified. The extreme toxicity of these substances still make the animal testing inevitable. No alternative method could reach the sensitivity of the mouse bioassay. Based on the investigations presented, a serological test shall be developed, which concentrates the sample and detects the toxin in one step. Preliminary results of an in vitro test detecting BoNT/D are discussed.

In 1985, serologic testing became available to screen blood donors for the viruses associated with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome; these viruses are now called human immunodeficiency viruses I and II. In 1989, blood donor screening for other retroviruses, human T-cell lymphotropic viruses I and II, was initiated. This article describes the evolution of testing protocols for blood donors for these viruses, disease manifestations associated with seropositivity, the efficacy of donor screening including testing for these retroviruses, and counseling recommendations for positive blood dono

The prevalence of Babesia equi infection in north west India was assessed by means of the capillary tube agglutination (CA) test. The particulate antigen used in the test was potent and no cross reaction with other related haemaprotozoa was observed. The serological survey showed that from 323 horses from 3 localities there was an overall incidence of 50.1 per cent. In Haryana the incidence was 38.3 per cent in the 196 horses tested, in Uttar Pradesh it was 47.2 per cent from 72 animals and in Rajasthan it was 96.4 per cent from 55 horses.

In the context of gamete donation, cytomegalovirus (CMV) serological screening was originally implemented to mitigate concerns about viral transmission, particularly following the HIV epidemic. Although emerging evidence questions the reliability of serological markers in accurately reflecting the presence of the virus in genital secretions, current North American practices still heavily rely on CMV serological testing to identify sperm donors at risk of transmitting CMV during fertility treatments. This review explores the complexities of CMV transmission in assisted reproductive technologies

INTRODUCTION: The prevalence of imported schistosomiasis among unaccompanied minor migrants (UMMs) in France is not well understood.
METHODOLOGY: From December 2023 to February 2024, we screened UMMs for schistosomiasis, in addition to tuberculosis screening, at our Alpes-Maritimes Tuberculosis Control Center. We offered serological screening (Western Blot) to all UMMs from sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). If the result was positive, we offered a parasitological examination of urine and stool samples.
RESULTS: During these three months, we screened 187 UMMs from SSA. Serology was positive for 116 o

Brucellosis is a highly contagious zoonosis that affects the public health and economic performance of endemic as well as non-endemic countries. In developing nations, brucellosis is often a very common but neglected disease. The purpose of this review is to provide insight about brucellosis in animal populations in Egypt and help to understand the situation from 1986 to 2013. A total of 67 national and international scientific publications on serological investigations, isolation, and biotyping studies from 1986 to 2013 were reviewed to verify the current status of brucellosis in animal popul

Bovine babesiosis is a tick-borne disease caused mainly by Babesia bovis and Babesia bigemina, which are associated to considerable economic losses in cattle herds worldwide. Approximately 60% of buffalo herds in South America are located in Northern Brazil. Little is known about the impact of babesiosis on buffalo herds in Brazil. The present work aimed to verify the occurrence of B. bovis and B. bigemina in 542 water buffaloes in the state of Pará, Northern Brazil, using molecular and serological techniques. The percentage of seropositive animals for B. bovis and B. bigemina was 41.2% and 19

Male goats of mating age serologically negative for Toxoplasma gondii were divided into three groups: GI--controls (placebo) (n = 2); GII--infected with 1 x 10⁶ tachyzoites (RH strains) (n = 2); and GIII--infected with 2 x 10⁵ oocysts (P strains) (n = 2). Clinical, hematology, parasite and serology tests and studies of parasites in the semen through bioassay and polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and in reproductive organs (bioassay) were performed to assess toxoplasma infection. Serological titers peaked at 4096 in two animal groups infected with the protozoan. The bioassays allowed an early de

Serological and virological studies were carried out of a mumps outbreak which occurred in one region, Yoeju County, Southeast of Seoul in Korea from September to December, 1999. Sera from 736 children at 8-13 years of age of patients with mumps and healthy children were tested for mumps-specific antibodies by enzyme immunoassay. The overall IgM positive rate was 7.6% (56/736), compared with 69.8% (514/736) for IgG. Of the 49 children with both IgG and IgM, 32 were also confirmed by both clinical and serological diagnosis. IgM antibodies were detected even in the samples collected up to 3 mont

The value of 2 PCR methods, targeting genomic and kinetoplast minicircle DNA respectively, was investigated for both diagnosis and prevalence studies of canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL). The first method (R) was 5000-fold less sensitive than the second (method KRV). Both were tested for diagnosis of CVL in 44 sick dogs with confirmed disease using different biological samples. Method R was highly efficient when using invasive samples, but the use of method KRV proved necessary for a 100% sensitive diagnosis using peripheral blood. This method was applied to peripheral blood and skin samples

Hydatid thymic cyst is exceptional. The diagnosis is suspected by radiology and epidemiology. Serology tests provide variable results and surgery is the only treatment. We report a case of thymic hydatid cyst in a 20-year-old man who had no other localizations. Diagnosis was confirmed at surgery and by histology.

Strongyloides stercoralis infection is a neglected tropical disease with a global distribution. Serodiagnosis is a sensitive method, but improving its performance and simplifying into a point-of-care test (POCT) are needed. This study aimed to improve the diagnostic performance of serological tests using partially purified Strongyloides ratti antigen in an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and an immunochromatographic test (ICT). Crude S. ratti antigen was purified by an IgG affinity column to partition the antigen into flow-through, washing fraction (WF), and elution fractions. Optimi

Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a neglected zoonotic disease caused by Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato. Diagnosis and monitoring of CE rely primarily on imaging while serology is used as a confirmatory test. However, imaging is not always conclusive and currently available serological assays have suboptimal sensitivity and specificity, lack standardization, and are not useful for patients´ follow-up. Seroassays for CE are usually based on hydatid fluid (HF), a complex, variable antigenic mixture, and cross-reactivity exists especially with alveolar echinococcosis. Recombinant proteins based o
