Septic arthritis of the shoulder, elbow, or wrist is not commonly described in the literature. We evaluated the micro- biology of these infections and the diagnostic role of joint aspirate findings. This retrospective study includes 52 patients, diagnosed from 1994 to 2004, with septic arthritis of the shoulder (n = 17), elbow (n = 23), or wrist (n = 12). PURPOSE: To report the usefulness of compression sutures in the management of three cases of bacterial wound infections in corneal transplants.
METHODS: Interventional case series.
RESULTS: All three cases of wound dehiscence and perforation resulting from bacterial wound infections were successfully treated with placement of compression sutures with concurrent topical antibiotic treatment.
CONCLUSION: The placement of compression sutures is a successful surgical technique to reestablish corneal transplant wound integrity compromised by infection.

A retrospective review of 323 penetrating keratoplasties performed in Taiwan between January 1993 and December 1997 revealed that late microbial keratitis developed in 39 eyes of 36 patients (12.1%). All patients were operated on by the same surgeon, and all were followed for at least 1 year. We presented a retrospective review of osteoarticular infections diagnosed at Sant Joan de Deu Hospital from Barcelona, in the last 10 years (1981-1990). We studied retrospectively the pattern of septic arthritis in childhood at a major municipal hospital during a ten-year period. Hemophilus influenzae was the most common organism in septic arthritis in patients less than two years old and was associated with upper respiratory tract infections in nine of 12 patients (75%). Staphylococcus aureus was seen in seven of eight (87.5%) children above the age of five and was associated with history of trauma. All patients were black. Despite the high incidence of sickle cell disease in our hospital population, not one patient had sickle cell disease.

In order to assess and correlate the bacteriology of neonatal septic arthritis with its clinical presentation, the records of nine infants with this disease that were diagnosed at Edmonton hospitals between 1964 and 1981 were reviewed and 92 other cases reported in the English-language literature since 1960 were evaluated. This is a report of 3 cases in which a primary infection in a site other than a total hip led to infection in the hip itself.
