PURPOSE: Women with early-stage breast cancer face the complex decision to undergo one of three equally effective oncologic surgical strategies: breast-conservation surgery with radiation (BCS), mastectomy, or mastectomy with breast reconstruction. OBJECTIVE: The present study was designed to compare stented porcine and bovine pericardial valves used for pulmonary valve replacement to better define valve performance and postoperative quality of life.
METHODS: A retrospective review of all patients who underwent pulmonary valve replacement with a stented bioprosthesis from 1992 to 2008 was conducted. To evaluate the chronic effects of exposure to cotton dust, a 15-yr follow-up study in cotton textile workers was performed in Shanghai, China from 1981 to 1996. Testing occurred four times during the 15-yr period.
