[Sleep disorders in patient with chronic kidney disease: proposal for a clinical pathway].

Sleep disorders are common in all stages of chronic kidney disease and significantly affect the quality of life of these patients. The main causes of sleep disorders are pruritus, depression, restless legs syndrome and obstructive sleep apnea. To date, there is no defined strategy or expert consensus for the screening of sleep disorders in this population, nor any recommendation on a specific management strategy according to etiology. We propose to use the PROMIS-29 questionnaire, to which two questions have been added: “Do you scratch yourself? Do you snore?” The answers to these questions, t

Antipsychotic medications and sleep problems in patients with schizophrenia.

BACKGROUND: Sleep problems are common and related to a worse quality of life in patients with schizophrenia. Almost all patients with schizophrenia use antipsychotic medications, which usually increase sleep. Still, the differences in subjective sleep outcomes between different antipsychotic medications are not entirely clear. METHODS: This study assessed 5466 patients with schizophrenia and is part of the nationwide Finnish SUPER study. We examined how the five most common antipsychotic medications (clozapine, olanzapine, quetiapine, aripiprazole, and risperidone) associate with questionnair

[Screening for sleep disorders in internal medicine as potential comorbidities of systemic autoimmune diseases and improving patients' quality of life].

Sleep medicine and internal medicine share a global and transdisciplinary vision of human physiology and illnesses, with an approach guided by the complaint and semiology. In France, approximately 13 to 18 million individuals suffer from a sleep disorder: these disorders therefore represent a public health problem. Their comorbidities with systemic autoimmune diseases are frequent. As such, this article suggests an approach to screening for sleep disorders in daily clinical practice of internal medicine leading, when appropriate, to request specialized diagnostic and/or therapeutic care in sle

Telehealth parent training for sleep disturbances in young children with autism spectrum disorder: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Young children with autism spectrum disorder (autism) have bedtime and sleep disturbances at much higher frequency and persistency than their neurotypical counterparts. Hence, access to early, effective treatment is critical in view of the importance of sleep in early childhood. Telehealth delivery could be a means to expand access to such early treatment if efficacious. The aim of this randomized control trial (RCT) was to compare a manualized, telehealth delivered, behaviorally based sleep parent training (SPT) intervention for parents of young children with autism an

Sleep Disorders and Circadian Disruption in Huntington's Disease.

Sleep and circadian alterations are common in patients with Huntington's disease (HD). Understanding the pathophysiology of these alterations and their association with disease progression and morbidity can guide HD management. We provide a narrative review of the clinical and basic-science studies centered on sleep and circadian function on HD. Sleep/wake disturbances among HD patients share many similarities with other neurodegenerative diseases. Overall, HD patients and animal models of the disease present with sleep changes early in the clinical course of the disease, including difficultie

Are sleep disorders associated with the risk of gastrointestinal cancer?-A case-control study.

PURPOSE: Sleep disorders are among the most common health problems worldwide and are linked to a variety of physical and mental health problems. Recently, there has been increasing evidence of an association between sleep disorders and cancer risk. We aimed to investigate this association specifically for cancers of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. METHODS: Using the DA database (IQVIA), adult patients diagnosed with GI cancer between January 2010 and December 2022 were retrospectively compared to a 1:1 propensity score-matched cohort of patients without cancer. The outcome of the study was t
