In connection with the development of new anticonvulsant agents with a broad spectrum, we found that N-Cbz-alpha-amino-N-alkylsuccinimides showed significant anticonvulsant activities, and the pharmacological activities of these compounds were dependent on their stereochemistry and N-substituted alkyl group. Plasma platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase (PAF-AH) is the enzyme that inactivates PAF (1-alkyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine). OBJECTIVE: Lisofylline is an enantiomer-specific, alkyl-substituted methylxanthine, which has specific and potent activity in down-regulating leukocyte activation. This study was designed to test the efficacy of lisofylline in the resuscitation of rats subjected to experimental hemorrhagic shock.

The timing of intestinal tumor initiation in B6-Min/+ mice has been examined by treating mice at 5-35 days of age with a single i.p. injection of the direct-acting alkylating agent N-ethyl-N-nitrosourea (ENU). Treatment of Min/+ mice at 5-14 days of age resulted in a 3.8-fold increase in intestinal tumor multiplicity over untreated mice. Mice treated at 20-35 days of age showed only a 1.6-fold increase in tumor number.
