Thirty adult dogs with naturally acquired gastrointestinal nematode infections were assigned at random to ten replicates and treated daily for 3 days with either a combination febantel/praziquantel (Vercom) paste, febantel tablets or placebo tablets. Numbers of hookworm and whipworm eggs after treatment were reduced similarly for both drug formulations when compared with pretreatment egg counts, whereas these counts increased in the controls. Twenty-eight helminth-naive Beagles, 16 to 26 weeks old, were inoculated with 200 third-stage larvae each of Ancylostoma caninum and Uncinaria stenocephala 5 times at weekly intervals. We reviewed the MR findings in 56 patients with neurocysticercosis (NCC). MR findings were correlated with other neuroradiologic findings in 40 cases, with histopathologic studies in 15 surgically treated patients, and with autopsy findings in one case. In a study of faecal egg counts of Schistosoma mansoni from 359 people of all ages from a rural Kenyan community, a positive association was demonstrated between infection intensity in individuals before treatment and reinfection intensity in the same individuals 9 months after treatment in certain age groups of the sampled population. Consequences and possible causes of these observations are discussed in terms of the epidemiology and control of schistosomiasis.

Albendazole is now used for therapy of neurocysticercosis; however, duration of treatment has usually been empirically determined. In this study we shortened the length of therapy from one month in previous reports, to one week. Twelve patients with parenchymal brain cysticercosis were treated with albendazole for eight days at daily doses of 15 mg/kg of body weight. After three months of treatment the number of cysts on computed tomography had decreased from 185 to six; a 97% reduction in the number of lesions. 29 Patients of ages varying from 12 to 60 years were treated orally with doses of 0.07 g/kg body weight of ethereal extract of male-fern, preceded by the administration of hypertonic solution of magnesium sulphate (15 g in 200 ml of water). All of them were previously treated with other anthelminthics without success. 25 of the patients obtained total cure. One woman expelled 14 scoleces of T. solium. The species determination for the 29 cases of Taeniasis revealed 3 cases of T. solium (10.3%) and 26 cases of T. saginata (89.7%).
