The solubility of SO(2) in a binary mixture of water and caprolactam tetrabutyl ammonium bromide ionic liquid (CPL-TBAB IL) was investigated. Though the ionic liquid and water were fully miscible, a phase separation occurred when SO(2) was introduced into the mixture. The SO(2) concentrated in the lower layer, and it could be released by heating the solution under reduced pressure (382.2K, 10.1 kPa). After desorption, the mixture could be reused to absorb SO(2). A simple, accurate and precise HPLC assay was developed and validated for determination of dexamethasone in human plasma. Triamcinolone acetonide was used as internal standard (I.S.) and plasma samples were extracted using liquid-liquid extraction with ethyl acetate. In this study, Co, Cu, Pd, and Pd/Cu composite metal ions were used to synthesize metal nanoparticles with high efficiency in purifying hydrogen cyanide gas. The pure liquid phase catalytic purification of hydrogen cyanide gas was studied. We report a patient with a meningioma presenting with Cushing's syndrome, an unprecedented paraneoplastic presentation. Molecular studies, bioassay, and high-performance liquid chromatography of tumor specimens demonstrated the synthesis and secretion of bioactive corticotropin-releasing hormone. To our knowledge, this appears to be the first report of a hormone-secreting meningioma and, further, the first clearly proven case of Cushing's syndrome due to ectopic corticotropin-releasing hormone secretion without concomitant corticotropin production.

A sensitive and specific radioimmunoassay for 1-deamino-8-D-arginine vasopressin (DDAVP) was developed. Plasma concentrations of DDAVP after intragastric administration were determined in non-fasted rats and a dose-related increase in plasma levels was obtained. The immunoidentity of plasma DDAVP and standard was established by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Correlation of biological and immunological responses of DDAVP was assessed using the antidiuretic effect in the Brattleboro (diabetes insipidus) rat.

Gas liquid chromatography has been used to compare the levels of erythritol in fetal fluids from fallow deer with those in fetal fluids from cows and small laboratory animals. The relationship between the relatively high levels of erythritol found in allantoic and amniotic fluid from fallow deer and the possible susceptibility of this species to brucellosis is discussed. An interesting accessory finding was the high concentration of calcium phosphate in the allantoic fluid from these deer.
