BACKGROUND: Little is known about proper interval periods between the flushings of totally implantable access ports after completion of chemotherapy. Manufacturer guidelines recommend flushing catheters every 4 weeks.
METHODS: This retrospective study examined whether flushing less than every 4 weeks conferred any benefit.
RESULTS: 349 totally implanted access ports were divided into four groups based on the different durations of the intervals between flushings. Sixteen (4.6%) complications were observed in the study population.

BACKGROUND: The effects of extended regimens of combined oral contraceptives (COC) on lipid parameters are largely unknown. The present study compared the effects of a COC containing 30 mcg ethinyl estradiol and 2 mg dienogest (EE/DNG) in conventional and extended-cycle regimen over 1 year.

We report a 79-year-old woman with T-cell prolymphocytic leukemia (T-PLL) who was successfully treated with fludarabine monophosphate. She was admitted to our hospital because of dyspnea on effort. This case describes almost continual daptomycin use for approximately 18 months in a patient with osteomyelitis caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The case is notable for only a brief episode of myalgia-associated creatine kinase elevations, which quickly resolved.
