A detailed analysis of immunophenotypes of 120 adult newly diagnosed patients with acute leukaemias was performed. Using the immunopheno-typing, it was possible to defined 96,7% of leukemia cases. The proportion of leukemia subtypes was: AML in 62,5%, ALL in 32,5%, acute biphenotypic leukaemia 1,7% and acute undifferentiated leukaemia (AUL) in 3,3%. MLL is fused to ENL or ELL in acute leukemias that contain t(ll;19)(q23;p13). We present the case of a 67-year-old male with primary extramedullary leukemia of the prostate gland, the first reported case in the literature to the best of our knowledge. His initial symptoms consisted of episodes of urinary retention. He underwent transurethral resection of the prostate, and a diagnosis of high-grade lymphoma was rendered. A case-control investigation of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia was conducted in the town of Carbonia (Sardinia, Italy). Parents of 9 cases diagnosed between 1980 and 1989 and 36 controls were interviewed at their respective residences. We studied 168 children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and 57 with acute nonlymphoblastic leukemia (ANLL) by retrospectively analyzing clinical symptoms, bone or joint involvement, and hematological findings to verify the clinical features and prognosis of children with acute leukemia who showed radiographic bone changes at the time of diagnosis. This report presents a case of a mandibular premolar with a vital pulp and a periapical radiolucent lesion in a patient with a history of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Biopsy of the lesion revealed an infiltrate of chronic lymphocytic leukemia in the mandible, which is quite rare. This lesion may have portended a worsening of the patient's condition and downgrading of her prognosis.
