[Effects of pressure steam sterilization times on the accuracy of the digital intraoral scanning data].

Objective: To provide a scientific basis for the standardized operation of clinical disinfection by comparing and analyzing the influence of disinfection times on the accuracy of digital intraoral scanning. Methods: The author prepared 10 brand-new intraoral scanning heads (Trios, 3Shape, Denmark), scan the same plaster standard dentition model after 1, 20, 40, and 60 times of pressure steam sterilization, and obtained the data of four groups of experimental groups A, B, C, D, and scan the model 5 times repeatedly after each disinfection cycle of each scanning head. A model scanner (D2000, 3Sh

Development and Validation of a Prediction Model for Atrial Fibrillation Using Electronic Health Records.

OBJECTIVES: This study sought to determine whether the risk of atrial fibrillation AF can be estimated accurately by using routinely ascertained features in the electronic health record (EHR) and whether AF risk is associated with stroke. BACKGROUND: Early diagnosis of AF and treatment with anticoagulation may prevent strokes. METHODS: Using a multi-institutional EHR, this study identified 412,085 individuals 45 to 95 years of age without prevalent AF between 2000 and 2014. A prediction model was derived and validated for 5-year AF risk by using split-sample validation and model performance

A doppler ultrasound-based model for predicting blood pressure response after revascularization in unilateral severe renal artery stenosis.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to develop a prediction model to preoperatively identify patients with unilateral severe renal artery stenosis (RAS) most likely to experience blood pressure improvement after revascularization. METHODS: In this retrospective study, 193 patients with unilateral severe RAS who underwent revascularization between 2018 and 2024 were analyzed. LASSO regression was used for variable selection, and the selected predictors were entered into a multivariable logistic regression model to develop the nomogram based on clinical and Doppler ultrasound parameters. Model performanc

Seizure Prediction Analysis of Infantile Spasms.

Infantile spasms (IS) is a typical childhood epileptic disorder with generalized seizures. The sudden, frequent and complex characteristics of infantile spasms are the main causes of sudden death, severe comorbidities and other adverse consequences. Effective prediction is highly critical to infantile spasms subjects, but few related studies have been done in the past. To address this, this study proposes a seizure prediction framework for infantile spasms by combining the statistical analysis and deep learning model. The analysis is conducted on dividing the continuous scalp electroencephalog

Using Statistical Time-Series Forecasting to Predict the Resting Heart Rate From Wearable Device Data: Case Report.

BACKGROUND: For endurance athletes, resting heart rate (RHR) is a well-known indicator of training load, physiological status, and readiness for upcoming training. Predicting the following day's RHR would enable athletes and coaches to optimize training plans and make timely load adjustments. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to develop a statistical time-series forecasting model for RHR. METHODS: Daily heart rate (HR) data (624 valid observations) collected from the personal wearable device of a single endurance runner (n=1) were used to establish a statistical time-series RHR forecastin

Deep learning-based statistical robustness evaluation of intensity-modulated proton therapy for head and neck cancer.

Objective. Previous methods for robustness evaluation rely on dose calculation for a number of uncertainty scenarios, which either fails to provide statistical meaning when the number is too small (e.g., ∼8) or becomes unfeasible in daily clinical practice when the number is sufficiently large (e.g., >100). Our proposed deep learning (DL)-based method addressed this issue by avoiding the intermediate dose calculation step and instead directly predicting the percentile dose distribution from the nominal dose distribution using a DL model. In this study, we sought to validate this DL-based stati

Longitudinal associations of screen time, physical activity, and sleep duration with body mass index in U.S. youth.

BACKGROUND: Youth use different forms of screen time (e.g., streaming, gaming) that may be related to body mass index (BMI). Screen time is non-independent from other behaviors, including physical activity and sleep duration. Statistical approaches such as isotemporal substitution or compositional data analysis (CoDA) can model associations between these non-independent behaviors and health outcomes. Few studies have examined different types of screen time, physical activity, and sleep duration simultaneously in relation to BMI. METHODS: Data were baseline (2017-2018) and one-year follow-up (

Effect of subclinical and clinical hypocalcemia and dietary cation-anion difference on rumination activity in periparturient dairy cows.

Rumination involves a complex series of muscle contractions that bring a bolus of ingesta to the mouth for further mastication before it is swallowed again. Healthy cows ruminate 8 to 9 h/d. Hypocalcemia is known to disrupt nerve and muscle function. Our hypothesis was that hypocalcemia in periparturient cows would reduce rumination activity. Twenty-six Holstein cows entering their third lactation or greater were fed a control diet [dietary cation-anion difference (DCAD) = +196 mEq/kg of dry matter (DM)] or a low DCAD diet supplemented with anions (DCAD = -9 mEq/kg of DM) prepartum. Comparing meta-analysis and ecological-longitudinal analysis in time-series studies. A case study of the effects of air pollution on mortality in three Spanish cities.

STUDY OBJECTIVE: The objective of this paper is to introduce a different approach, called the ecological-longitudinal, to carrying out pooled analysis in time series ecological studies. Because it gives a larger number of data points and, hence, increases the statistical power of the analysis, this approach, unlike conventional ones, allows the complementation of aspects such as accommodation of random effect models, of lags, of interaction between pollutants and between pollutants and meteorological variables, that are hardly implemented in conventional approaches. DESIGN: The approach is il

A comparative review of statistical methods for discovering differentially expressed genes in replicated microarray experiments.

MOTIVATION: A common task in analyzing microarray data is to determine which genes are differentially expressed across two kinds of tissue samples or samples obtained under two experimental conditions. Recently several statistical methods have been proposed to accomplish this goal when there are replicated samples under each condition. However, it may not be clear how these methods compare with each other. Our main goal here is to compare three methods, the t-test, a regression modeling approach (Thomas et al., Genome Res., 11, 1227-1236, 2001) and a mixture model approach (Pan et al., http://

A parallel accumulator model accounts for decision randomness when deciding on risky prospects with different expected value.

In decision-making situations individuals rarely have complete information available to select the best option and often show decisional randomness, i.e. given the same amount of knowledge individuals choose different options at different times. Dysfunctional processes resulting in altered decisional randomness can be considered a target process for psychiatric disorders, yet these processes remain poorly understood. Advances in computational modeling of decision-making offer a potential explanation for decisional randomness by positing that decisions are implemented in the brain through accum
