We report the long-term clinical results of conservative management of children with unilateral multicystic dysplastic kidneys (MCDK). Between 1989 and 2002, 43 children with MCDK detected by prenatal ultrasonography were prospectively followed. At birth, ultrasonography confirmed the prenatal findings in all cases. Patients underwent a radioisotope scan and micturating cystogram in order to confirm the diagnosis and to exclude other uropathies. INTRODUCTION: Subarachnoidal hemorrhage (SAH) is the fourth most common intracranial cause of death. Approximately 50 to 85 percent of non-traumatic SAH is caused by rupture of congenital berry aneurysm. Symptoms of rupture are typically sudden and without any heralds. In most SAH cases, the vasospasm following the rupture is the most probable cause of death. In forensic pathology, an isolated SAH episode after minor head trauma should be considered dubious, and as mode of death.

Clinical signs of botulism were observed in a group of eight cats, four of which died, after being fed pelican carrion. Clostridium botulinum type C was isolated from one cat. The microorganism and its toxin were found in the pelican. This is apparently the first report of natural botulism in cats.

OBJECTIVE: To ascertain whether carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) in patients affected with toxic oil syndrome (TOS) is associated with conditions and diseases considered risk factors for CTS in the general population and/or with certain clinical manifestations of TOS.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The incidence and natural history of small esophageal varices (EV) in cirrhotics may influence the frequency of endoscopies and the decision to start a pharmacological treatment in these patients.

Aggregate-level prevalences and individual-level developmental trajectories of untreated problem gambling were examined in an 11-year, 4-wave longitudinal study spanning the adolescent through young adult years. The past-year prevalences, 3-4 year incidences, and lifetime prevalences of problem gambling from adolescence through young adulthood were relatively stable at 2%-3%, 1%-2%, and 3%-5%, respectively. The morbidity and immunological response to naturally acquired Schistosoma mansoni infection in a population of wild baboons ( n=28) was investigated. Although the nephropathy of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is known both in humans and dogs, histopathologic alterations have not been thoroughly studied. Tumors involving the tectal region constitute a distinct subgroup of brain stem gliomas with an indolent clinical course.
