55 prospectively documented patients aged 20-84 (median 67) years (47 women, 8 males) underwent surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT). The most frequent symptoms and associated conditions were nephrolithiasis (42%) and neuropsychiatric symptoms (39%). A case of multiple-site osteosarcomas in the jaw of a 56-year-old patient is reported. The disease occurred consecutively at three different sites (left maxilla, left mandible, right mandible) separated by time intervals of 12 and 18 months, respectively. Metachronous osteosarcomas of the long bones is a rare form of osteosarcoma and implies multiple lesions appearing at different times, each one behaving clinically as a primary lesion. The pathogenesis of this disease is unknown as it is unclear whether the lesions represent independent primary tumours or metastatic disease.

We retrospectively studied 72 patients with maxillary carcinoma (48 of the gingiva, 22 of the antrum, and one each of the hard palate and maxillary bone). The 5-year survival was 73% for those with gingival carcinoma, and 45% for those with antral carcinoma. BACKGROUND: Postoperative radiotherapy is necessary for squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the oral cavity with positive or close margins. The aim of the study is to define the indications of postoperative brachytherapy (BRT).
METHODS: From 1979 to 1993, 82 patients with positive or close margins had postoperative BRT (58 T1-2, 24 T3-4, 45 mobile tongue, 37 floor of mouth). We report two cases of difficult orotracheal intubation in which intubation with a fiberoptic bronchoscope was performed after induction with an inhalational anesthetic. Mild inhalational anesthesia with sevoflurane was started fairly rapidly, with no respiratory incidences. The tubes were then inserted through a fiberoptic bronchoscope, with no airway management problems.
