Antagonistic regulation by mango MiSPL9a and MiSPL9b regulates flowering time, drought and salt stress in Arabidopsis.

SQUAMOSA PROMOTER BINDING PROTEIN-LIKE (SPL) transcription factors, which are unique to plants, contain a highly conserved SBP domain that regulates gene expression by binding to downstream targets. They play critical roles in various biological processes, especially in the regulation of flowering in plants. In this study, two SPL-like genes (MiSPL9a and MiSPL9b) were identified from mango genomic and transcriptomic data, and their sequence, expression and function were further analyzed. Sequence analysis revealed that MiSPL9a and MiSPL9b have open reading frames of 1173 bp and 1158 bp, respec

Comparative mediation roles of body shape indices in the association between Healthy Eating Index-2015 and phenotypic age acceleration: A cross-sectional study based on NHANES 2005-2010.

Aging is a universal physiological process, yet the rate of aging varies significantly among individuals. Phenotypic Age is a biomarker-based measure that reflects biological aging by quantifying the deviation of an individual's physiological state from their chronological age. Diet quality, as a modifiable factor, may influence the aging process; however, its association with phenotypic aging and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. We analyzed data from 12,511 U.S. adults aged ≥ 20 years from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2005-2010. Diet quality was assessed using

Urinary melatonin: A non-invasive breast cancer biomarker.

Biomarkers of urinary melatonin represent an attractive non-invasive method for enhancing breast cancer diagnosis and follow-up, as they reflect combined circadian physiology in a readily accessible and repeatable urine test. There has been a growing interest in this field, driven by the understanding that melatonin plays a role in regulating the endocrine system, influencing sleep patterns, managing circadian rhythms, affecting exposure to night-time light, and impacting the body's response to cancer and its treatment. The urinary analyte 6-sulfatoxymelatonin has become the most viable surrog

Temperature-dependent Effects of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi on Growth, Antioxidant Activity, and Heat Shock Protein Expression in Long Bean (Vigna unguiculata ssp. sesquipedalis).

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are known enhancers of plant abiotic stress tolerance, yet their responses to varying temperatures and subsequent effects on host physiology remain less understood. Here, long bean (Vigna unguiculata ssp. sesquipedalis) plants were cultivated under three temperature conditions 25 °C, 35 °C, and outdoors (fluctuating 24-43.5 °C) to assess AMF community diversity, plant root colonisation, phenotypic traits, physiological traits, and heat shock protein (hsp) gene expression. AMF-targeted amplicon sequencing and morphological analyses showed AMF diversity to be h

Anatomical, biochemical and gene expression studies in four hydrangea cultivars under low temperature stress.

Hydrangea, which has large and vivid flowers, is a crucial ornamental plant that is used in landscape design. However, its limited tolerance to cold restricts its widespread application in regions with low temperatures. To investigate the effects of low-temperature stress on hydrangea, four common cultivars were examined. By comparing leaf anatomical structures and physiological parameters including soluble substances levels, antioxidant enzyme activities, and cold resistance-related gene expression levels under different low-temperature conditions (4°C, 0°C, -4°C, -8°C, and -12°C), cold resis

Clinical features and factors associated with emergency department transfer among outpatients.

Unplanned emergency department (ED) transfer from outpatient clinics represents an important escalation point that may reflect early physiological deterioration and limited ambulatory capacity for monitoring and urgent interventions. We conducted a retrospective matched case-control study of consecutive adult outpatients treated at our institution between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2024. Cases were outpatients requiring ED transfer during or shortly after the index outpatient encounter, confirmed by transfer documentation and same-day ED registration. Controls were outpatients discharged

Effects of artificial diet on glycolytic pathway and immune response in mandarin fish (Siniperca chuatsi).

Mandarin fish (Siniperca chuatsi) is a carnivorous species of significant interest in aquaculture. Although advances have been made in developing formulated diets, transitioning from live prey (LP) to artificial feed (FP) often induces metabolic dysfunction. This study comprehensively compared physiological responses between LP and FP-fed groups, analyzing hematological parameters, serum biochemistry, hepatic metabolism, and immune-related gene expression. Results indicated that FP feeding induced marked physiological alterations: significant reduction in red blood cells (RBC), white blood cel

Life course predictors of allostatic load among sexual and gender minority (SGM) midlife & older adults.

Sexual and gender minority (SGM) midlife and older adults face elevated rates of chronic health conditions, frequent mental distress, and disability compared to their heterosexual peers. Chronic stress, a key predictor of allostatic load (AL), the cumulative wear and tear on physiological systems exacerbates these disparities. Structural stigma manifests at multiple levels (e.g., institutional heterosexism, interpersonal discrimination, self-stigma), increasing the risks for poorer mental, physical, social, and environmental health. Using data from Aging with Pride: National Health, Aging, and

β-carotene enhances drought tolerance in fenugreek by modulating antioxidant defense and redox homeostasis.

Drought stress is one of the main abiotic factors that modulates the morphology and physiology of crops. This study investigated the effect of foliar application of β-carotene on the growth, physiological, and biochemical responses of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) under drought stress conditions. A pot experiment was conducted using two varieties, Kasuri and Local, under two drought stress levels (control and 50% field capacity), and three β-carotene concentrations (0, 100, and 200 ppm) were applied. Drought stress significantly declined shoot fresh weight up to 35.02% and 58.04%, a

Virtual Reality Reduces Office Blood Pressure and Anxiety in Patients Undergoing Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring: Enhanced Response among Those With a Pronounced White Coat Response.

Office blood pressure (OBP) may be transiently elevated during clinical encounters because of situational anxiety and stress-related physiologic arousal, contributing to diagnostic uncertainty and potential overtreatment. Virtual reality (VR)-based relaxation can reduce stress-related physiologic responses, but its effects on OBP and potential role in mitigating the white coat response among patients undergoing ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) have not been evaluated. We conducted a prospective, single-arm, pre-post study among adults undergoing ABPM in a tertiary hypertension clini

Local Anesthetic Toxicity in Epidural Analgesia for Elderly Patients: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Elderly patients have a higher likelihood of undergoing surgical procedures compared to younger populations, a factor associated with increased perioperative mortality and anesthesia-related morbidity. Regional anesthesia in geriatric patients offers a favorable safety profile, optimizes analgesia, and contributes to reducing postoperative complications, particularly within the framework of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols. Nevertheless, local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST) remains a rare yet potentially life-threatening complication in the context of epidural

Evolutionary Reorganization of Transcriptomic Architecture Across a UVB Tolerance Gradient in Fish.

Environmental stressors such as ultraviolet radiation impose strong selective pressures on organisms, yet how adaptation to such stressors shapes transcriptomic responses at the network level remains poorly understood. Although stratospheric ozone is recovering globally, substantial regional variation in UV exposure persists, particularly in high-altitude environments where extreme UV levels can occur. Here, we compared three fish models representing distinct biological responses to UVB exposure: wild-type zebrafish (Danio rerio), a melanin-deficient zebrafish mutant (nacre) lacking a major pr

Lower Back Muscle Fatigue Recognition Based on the Fusion-Information of Multi-Channel sEMG and NIRS Simultaneous Recordings.

Accurate recognition of muscle fatigue in the lower back is essential for preventing low back pain and reducing the risk of occupational injuries. However, current recognition accuracy remains unsatisfactory due to limitations in both measurement tools and recognition algorithms. This study proposes a novel recognition framework for muscle fatigue based on a 60-channel hybrid physiological sensor array and a deep learning algorithm. The sensor array, which integrated surface electromyography (sEMG) electrodes and near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) probes, enabled simultaneous, co-located record

Microstructure-informed biphasic-osmotic modeling of intervertebral disc degeneration.

The intervertebral disc (IVD) plays a fundamental role in load absorption and redistribution during daily activities. Its mechanical behavior arises from the intricate interplay between the structural anisotropy of the annulus fibrosus (AF) and osmotic swelling driven by fixed charge density in the nucleus pulposus (NP). This behavior is further governed by fluid redistribution through the porous matrix and across its boundaries, including interactions with the adjacent endplates and the surrounding physiological environment. Despite advances in IVD modeling, few computational tools accurately
