Translation and validation of the drooling impact scale questionnaire into Brazilian Portuguese.

INTRODUCTION: Inadequate drooling can cause serious clinical, functional and social problems. Validated questionnaires to evaluate drooling impact on quality of life are lacking in Brazilian Portuguese. OBJECTIVES: To translate and validate the drooling impact scale to Brazilian Portuguese. METHODS: The drooling impact scale was translated to Brazilian Portuguese and back- translated to English to assess potential conceptual differences. Brazilian Portuguese version of drooling impact scale was applied to a 40 patients' sample of sialorrhea presenting pediatric patients (up to 20 years of ag

Sexuality and gender invariance of the PHQ-9 and GAD-7: Implications for 16 identity groups.

BACKGROUND: The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) are two commonly used screening tools for depression and anxiety, respectively. Despite the widespread use of these instruments, researchers have yet to examine whether scores may differ as a function of gender identity or sexuality orientation. METHOD: Using data from the 2018 and 2019 National Healthy minds study (N = 46,672), the present study tested each instrument for measurement invariance across 16 gender and sexual minority groups. RESULTS: Multigroup structural equation modeling rev

English version of the self-administered Fabry Pain Questionnaire for adult patients.

BACKGROUND: Pain is an early symptom of Fabry disease (FD) and is characterized by a unique phenotype with mainly episodic acral and triggerable burning pain. Recently, we designed and validated the first pain questionnaire for adult FD patients in an interview and a self-administered version in German: the Würzburg Fabry Pain Questionnaire (FPQ). We now report the validation of the English version of the self-administered FPQ (enFPQ). METHODS: After two forward-backward translations of the FPQ by native German and native English speakers, the enFPQ was applied at The Mark Holland Metabolic U

Hyperhidrosis Quality of Life Index (HidroQoL©): further validation and clinical application in patients with axillary hyperhidrosis using data from a phase III randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: The Hyperhidrosis Quality of Life Index (HidroQoL©) is a validated patient-reported outcome measure capturing the quality of life of people affected by hyperhidrosis. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to extend the validity evidence to physician-confirmed diagnosis of primary axillary hyperhidrosis. METHODS: Data from a phase III randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial were used (n = 171). Confirmatory factor analysis was carried out to confirm the a priori two-factor structure of the HidroQoL. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's α. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC

Development and validation of the hypersomnia-specific beliefs scale.

OBJECTIVE/BACKGROUND: Patients with Central hypersomnia, especially Narcolepsy type 1 and Idiopathic Hypersomnia (NT1 and IHS) often have psychological frustration in their daily lives. We aimed to develop the first scale of hypersomnia-specific beliefs (HSB). PATIENTS/METHODS: We developed the HSB scale consisting of three factors ("aversion toward doze", "hypersensitivity toward others" reactions about my doze", and "sense of defeat caused by doze") with 12 items through interviews to 11 patients with NT1 and IHS. Validity and reliability of the HSB were evaluated cross-sectionally with 166

Dimensionality, Reliability, Invariance, and Validity of the Multidimensional Social Anxiety Response Inventory-21 (MSARI-21).

Research shows that social anxiety disorder (SAD) is prevalent in the United States, and could interfere with many aspects of a person's life. Although numerous psychological instruments have been developed to measure presence and intensity levels of social anxiety, these instruments fail to capture the range of responses individuals use to mitigate the negative affect associated with the anxiety, namely alcohol use and anger distress. Recently, the Multidimensional Social Anxiety Response Inventory-21 (MSARI-21) was developed to address this limitation and increase our understanding of the co

Perceived Esthetic Outcomes of Face Transplantation: A Survey of the General Public.

Facial transplantation (FT) has attracted the interest of individuals with facial disfigurement as a path to social reintegration. The perception among face transplant recipients and the reconstructive surgery community appears to be that superior functional and esthetic outcomes can be obtained with FT compared to autologous reconstruction (AR). Although lifelong immunosuppression adds well-known risks to FT, its benefits have proven difficult to quantify, especially because of its non-life-saving nature. Evidence that the general public perceives facial allograft recipients as less disfigure

The development of a short version of TEMPS-A in Hungarian non-clinical samples.

BACKGROUND: The Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa and San Diego Autoquestionnaire (TEMPS-A) is a widely used measure of affective temperaments. Affective temperaments refer to people's prevailing moods and are important precursors of affective disorders. With the two studies presented in this paper, we aimed to develop a short version of the Hungarian TEMPS-A. METHODS: A total number of 1857 university students participated in two studies. The original 110-item version and the newly developed short version of TEMPS-A, the anger, depression, and anxiety scales of the PROMIS Emotional Dis

The Community Balance and Mobility Scale: A VALID ASSESSMENT TOOL OF BALANCE IN CARDIAC REHABILITATION PATIENTS.

PURPOSE: Many patients participating in cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs have decreased balance. This is a concern, as it may affect their ability to optimally perform physical exercise in CR and thus decrease CR efficacy. Despite this concern, balance is typically not assessed as part of CR intake. This may be attributable to the fact that a suitable balance assessment tool has not been identified for higher-functioning CR patients. A potential solution to this issue is using the Community Balance and Mobility Scale (CBMS), which has been used to assess balance in higher-functioning clini

Measurement Properties of Visual Analogue Scale, Numeric Rating Scale, and Pain Severity Subscale of the Brief Pain Inventory in Patients With Low Back Pain: A Systematic Review.

The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), and Pain Severity subscale of the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI-PS) are the most frequently used instruments to measure pain intensity in low back pain. However, their measurement properties in this population have not been reviewed systematically. The goal of this study was to provide such systematic evidence synthesis. Six electronic sources (MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, SportDiscus, Google Scholar) were searched (July 2017). Studies assessing any measurement property in patients with nonspecific low back pain were included. Two

Guideline for translation and national validation of the Quality of Life in Hand Eczema Questionnaire (QOLHEQ).

There is a need for well-developed and validated questionnaires to measure patient reported outcomes. The Quality of Life in Hand Eczema Questionnaire (QOLHEQ) is such a validated instrument measuring disease-specific health-related quality of life in hand eczema patients. A re-validation of measurement properties is required before an instrument is used in a new population. With the objective of arriving at a guideline for translation and national validation of the QOLHEQ, we have developed the design of a reference study on how to adequately assess measurement properties of the QOLHEQ based
