The posterior truncal and anterior proximal seromyotomy were performed in 150 patients. One and three years after the operation, 102 of the patients were examined. An excellent and good results were noted in 86.3%, a satisfactory one--in 13.7% of the patients. No unsatisfactory result was noted. The given modification has the following advantages: rapid elimination of the pain syndrome, low traumaticity, technical simplicity and short duration of the operation.

The usual HCl-toluidine blue staining of different endocrine cells is applicable to paraffin embedded material. A modification for Epon embedded tissue suitable for consecutive light and electron microscopic studies is described which makes it possible to find the same stained cell, both in a semithin section and in subsequent ultrathin sections. This method facilitates the search for scattered specific endocrine cells. Without removing the resin, sections of Epon embedded tissues were hydrolyzed for 17 hr in 1% HCl at 65 C and stained for 2 hr in 0.1% toluidine blue in McIlvaine buffer, pH 5.

A prospective, randomized study of proximal gastric vagotomy without drainage (PGV) was done in 174 adult men with chronic duodenal ulcer intractable to medical therapy. PGV was randomized against truncal vagotomy with antrectomy (TV + A) and against selective gastric vagotomy with Finney pyloroplasty (SGV + P). A clinical study of 70 patients with hernia hiatus oesophagi (59 sliding hernias, 11 paraoesophageal), of whom 22 had received primary surgery, 33 medical treatment and 15 with no discomfort from the hernia had no primary treatment at all. None of the patients in any of these groups had undergone an operation later. This study was designed to clarify the details of any changes in serum growth hormone levels occurring in surgical patients. Delayed gastric emptying (DGE) after Ivor-Lewis esophagectomy occurs postoperatively in up to 50% of the patients. BACKGROUND: Gastric stenting has become a common place in clinical practice. The aim of our study was to evaluate the factors influencing the clinical outcome in patients who received endoscopic stenting for malignant gastric outlet obstruction (GOO).

A morphological evaluation of the results of transcutaneous radiation of male mice with infra-red impulse laser beam for 10 min (10,100, 1000, 10,000 Hz) 5 min, 3 and 24 hours after the procedure has confirmed the existence of "resonance" frequencies for different types of endocrine cells and has shown that the response depends not only on the dose of infrared low-intensity laser radiation.
