Resistance to antifungal agents in vulvovaginal candidiasis has resulted in increasing morbidity among women globally. It is therefore crucial that new antimycotic agents are developed to counter this rising challenge. Q-Griffithsin (Q-GRFT) is a red algal lectin, manufactured in Nicotiana benthamiana. Griffithsin has well characterized broad spectrum antiviral activity and has demonstrated potent in vitro activity against multiple strains of Candida, including C. albicans. In this issue of Med, Song et al. compared 174 maternal and 177 infant microbiota after vaginal and cesarean delivery, including 30 vaginally seeded cesarean-born infants. Vaginal seeding partially corrected the microbial divergence observed between cesarean- and vaginal-born infant microbiomes. Performing injections with a bulking agent consisting of nonanimal stabilized hyaluronic acid and dextranomer is a well-tolerated and efficacious treatment for mild to moderate fecal incontinence. Here, we discuss a case of a patient with a history of a bulking procedure for fecal incontinence who presented to the obstetrics/gynecology clinic for evaluation of a new vaginal "cyst," which was excised. Histopathologic examination revealed migrated bulking agent within the excised specimen.
