Fluorescein iridoangiography of 33 eyes with benign tumours and 22 eyes with malignant tumours is discussed. In cases of leiomyoma the tumour vessels have a distinct pattern, and fluorescence of the tumour tissue is mottled and short-lived. Malignant tumours are characterised by distortion of their vessels. Simultaneously the patches of fluorescence appear in the tissue of the tumour and lead to a diffuse confluence. Changes in the architecture of the vessels of the iris near the tumour and absence of fluorescence at the pupil margin indicate growth of the neoplasm.

Two cases of Edwards' syndrome were observed. One occurred in a girl aged 6 months, the other in a male neonate. The two children showed a highly characteristic appearance of both the face and the extremities, so that it arouse suspicion of 18-chromosomy. The latter was confirmed by a postmortem cytogenetic examination. The syndrome also includes malformations of inner organs and microscopical architectural changes of organs, which occurred in both the cases described, but different in type.

Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is an MRI-based technique that delineates white matter tracts in the brain by tracking the diffusion of water in neural tissue. This methodology, known as "tractography", has been extensively applied in clinical neuroscience to explore nervous system architecture and diseases. More recently, tractography has been used to assist with neurosurgical targeting in functional neurosurgery. This review provides an overview of DTI principles, and discusses current applications of tractography for improving and helping develop novel deep brain stimulation (DBS) targets.

The penetrance of schizophrenia risk in carriers of the 22q11.2 deletion is high but incomplete, suggesting the possibility of additional genetic defects. We performed whole exome sequencing on two individuals with 22q11.2 deletion, one with schizophrenia and the other who was psychosis-free. The results revealed novel genetic variants related to neuronal function exclusively in the person with schizophrenia (frameshift: KAT8, APOH and SNX31; nonsense: EFCAB11 and CLVS2). This study paves the way towards a more complete understanding of variant dose and genetic architecture in schizophrenia.

In the past several decades, the method of bone mineral measurement has been establised and contributed to the advancement of clinical practice of osteoporosis. The microfocus X-ray CT has been applied to the analysis of bome microarchitecture, and recently it is possible to analyse trabecular architecture in distal radius using clinical CT. On the other hand, as to the aplication of plain radiography, standarization of vertebral fracture assessment has been progressed in parallel to the recognition of prevalent vertebral fracture as fracture risk.

Lichen sclerosus (LS) is an inflammatory skin disease predominantly affecting the anogenital region. If untreated, progressive sclerosis results in scarring with distortion of the normal architecture. LS occurs more commonly in women than men but may occur in all age groups, including adolescents and prepubertal children. Its exact prevalence is unknown, but estimates range from 1:60 to 1:1000. In this article, LS is discussed in detail with respect to disease management in adults and children, risk of malignancy, and association with other diseases.

Ruptured vasa previa is rare but usually catastrophic if delivery is not imminent. We present a case of ruptured vasa previa in velamentous cord insertion placenta. The fetus survived despite 6 h of a venous rupture because of the tamponade effect from fetal head engagement. Defects in the vessel wall architecture were revealed by histopathologic examination and might be responsible for the vessel rupture. Prenatal sonographic identification of cord insertion site into the placenta is encouraged as standard of practice to prevent this accident.

BACKGROUND: We report the second case of enteric-type villous adenoma of the vulva. The differential diagnosis, histogenesis, and pathogenesis are discussed.
CASE: A 66-year-old woman had a tumor resected from the posterior aspect of the vulva. The tumor was characterized by its villous architecture, with columnar epithelium and goblet cells. This vulvar tubulovillous adenoma was identical to a tumor resected 6 months before from this patient's rectal wall.
CONCLUSION: These two tumors behaved benignly, and the vulvar adenoma possibly originated with the müllerian vestige.
