Artificial intelligence-enabled detection of left ventricular hypertrophy using a single-lead electrocardiogram: a pilot study for wearable-based screening.

BACKGROUND: Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is an independent predictor of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Single-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) tracings from consumer wearable devices may enable scalable screening for LVH where standard 12-lead ECG acquisition is not feasible. METHODS: We developed a transformer-based deep learning model to detect LVH using single-lead ECG (lead I) combined with demographic variables and benchmarked performance against a 12-lead ECG model within the same framework. The PTB-XL dataset (21,837 cardiologist-annotated ECGs from 18,885 patients) was used

Liquid biopsy, multi-cancer early detection, and artificial intelligence: new frontiers in cancer screening from a technological and immunological perspective.

Early cancer detection remains a central challenge in oncology because many lethal tumors are diagnosed after curative opportunities have narrowed, whereas current organ-specific screening methods cover only a limited number of cancer types and may be constrained by invasiveness, cost, accessibility or stage-dependent sensitivity. Liquid biopsy, multi-cancer early detection (MCED) and artificial intelligence (AI) are rapidly reshaping this field, but their clinical implications require careful interpretation. This review critically evaluates major liquid-biopsy analytes, including circulating …

Artificial intelligence-assisted triage of cervical biopsies using the low-cost, 3D-printed OpenFlexure Microscope: a paired comparative feasibility study.

OBJECTIVE: Artificial intelligence has been used in pathology to analyze whole-slide images for the triage of biopsies for pathologist review. However, this has been performed with prohibitively costly slide scanners that may be unavailable in low- and middle-income countries, where the number of trained pathologists is limited. We evaluated whether a 3D-printed slide scanner (OpenFlexure Microscope) could create images of sufficient quality that could be used for artificial intelligence triage of cervical biopsies and compared them to images created by a commercial slide scanner. METHODS: Ce…
