Paper talks about hazardous materials incidents in Nepal that threaten health, safety and the environment. Rapid urbanisation and industrial growth have made chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear emergencies more likely, but there is still not a clear national plan or complete chemical inventory, leaving the health sector unprepared. Emergency responders rely on the Emergency Response Guidebook and the Wireless Information System for Emergency Responders, but many are not aware of these tools or trained to use them. The Nepalese Army has a dedicated chemical, biological, radiological

West Nile virus (WNV) infection is emerging as a disease of public health concern in Kerala state, India with recurring outbreaks since 2011. With its tropical climate, biodiversity hot spots of Western ghats, forest cover, plenty of water bodies and bird sanctuaries, Kerala provides an ideal ecological niche for vector breeding and transmission of WNV. In this work, we reflect on the peculiar features of the outbreaks of WNV fever in Kerala and highlight the knowledge gaps, research priorities and the need for effective control measures. Information on transmission patterns of WNV, its circul

During the Covid-19 pandemic period, the indiscriminate use of macrolide-class antibiotics was frequent among the Brazilian population due to the lack of knowledge and information with a scientific basis. Thus, the class of drugs that includes azithromycin, clarithromycin, and erythromycin, which alter metabolic reactions in the body and act on the immune system, was widely used without medical prescription. Samples of bacterial strains from hospital environments were obtained during the most extensive spread of Covid-19 and studied in the present article, emphasizing the investigation for mac

Long-term adherence to antiretroviral medication continues to present as a challenge along the continuum of the HIV care cascade. HIV interventions and support programs are significantly threatened in resource-limited settings by challenges in maintaining long-term follow-up for ART adherence. We sought to complete a systematic review to comprehensively examine ART adherence and retention in care interventions in Sub-Saharan Africa and to report on the implementation of interventions in real-world settings to inform future health investments in HIV care. Interventions were grouped according to

Carica papaya (papaya) leaf extract has been used for a long time in a traditional medicine to treat fever in some infectious diseases such as dengue, malaria, and chikungunya. The development of science and technology has subsequently made it possible to provide evidence that this plant is not only beneficial as an informal medication, but also that it has scientifically proven pharmacological and toxicological activities, which have led to its formal usage in professional health care systems. The development of formulations for use in nutraceuticals and cosmeceuticals has caused this product

Human rabies is a significant public health concern in Tunisia. However, the spatiotemporal spread pattern of rabies in dogs, the major reservoir and vector, and its determinants are poorly understood. We collected geographic locations and timeline of reported animal rabies cases in the region of CapBon (study area), for the years 2015-2019 and integrated them in Geographical Information System (GIS) approach to explore the spatio-temporal pattern of dog rabies. The results show that roads and irrigated areas can act as ecological corridors to viral spread. Our study showed that there was a si

Moving On Initiatives (MOIs) assist individuals with the transition from permanent supportive housing to mainstream housing without the embedded supports. This emerging innovation has the potential to increase behavioral health system capacity and provide recipients with the opportunity to live in the least restrictive setting. However, few empirical studies have examined MOIs, and little is known about the implementation challenges providers face and strategies they use to realize these initiatives in practice. To identify these challenges and strategies, this study utilized over 2 years of o

The diseases with watery droppings (diarrhea and/or polyuria) can be considered some of the most severe health problems in domestic pigeons of various ages. Although they do not always lead to bird death, they can contribute to poor weight gains and hindered development of young pigeons and, potentially, to poor racing results in sports birds. The gastrointestinal tract disorders of pigeons may be of various etiology, but some of the causative agents are viral infections. This review article provides information collected from scientific reports on RNA-viruses belonging to the Astroviridae, Pi

Patient socioeconomic data is not usually included in medical records nor easily accessible to clinicians, yet socioeconomic disadvantage can be an important guide to disease management. This study evaluated the neighborhood-level Area Deprivation Index (ADI), a measure of neighborhood socioeconomic disadvantage, as a factor in diabetes mellitus prevalence. Electronic health records at an academic hospital system identified 4,770 Medicare beneficiaries. Logistic regression of diabetes diagnosis (ICD9=250.x) against ADI quintile, age, gender, and race/ethnicity found all these patient character

INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND: Since 2015, an epidemic of Zika virus spread across the Americas. This coincided with an increased incidence of microcephaly reported at birth in Brazil, with subsequent evidence of a causal association.
SOURCES OF DATA: Systemic reviews, observational studies, public health organizations.
AREAS OF AGREEMENT: Zika virus causes microcephaly and brain abnormalities in infants born to mothers infected during or shortly before pregnancy. Zika virus is a trigger for Guillain Barre Syndrome. Whilst mosquito bite is the main route of transmission, sexual transmission is ano

In 1997, the WHO declared domestic vioLence to be a health issue requiring medical attention. According to epidemiological data, it is a highly prevalent disease, with considerable short and long-term effects. Its treatment mandates diverse skills, such as clinical knowledge, emotional consideration, systemic vision and multi-disciplinary cooperation. There is controversy as to the effectiveness of screening for the disease. There is no agreement as to a single screening questionnaire and its use. Therefore, there are no recommendations for or against screening. Nevertheless, according to the

"Brazil is the world champion of caesareans." This prowess points out a serious public health problem. While the increase in the percentage of caesareans among all deliveries is an international phenomenon, it is highest by far in Brazil, where caesareans account for nearly 40% of births, that is, three times the maximum recommended by WHO. This abusive practice appears pandemic and has spread in recent years throughout the entire country, although at divergent rates. It weighs heavily on Brazil's national health insurance fund. After a critical examination of the information sources related t

Mortality attributable to major causes of death around 1980 has been estimated for different regions in the world. The World Health Organization's mortality data bank has been employed to derive the rates for the developed areas in the world whereas for the developing areas, cause-specific mortality has been estimated on the basis of total mortality using a linear regression method. For the cause grouping chosen, infectious and parasitic diseases claim one third of all deaths in the world. Although diseases of the circulatory system and neoplasms are the two most common causes of death in the

BACKGROUND: Rare disorders contribute significant collective health system costs; individuals living with rare disorders frequently encounter diagnostic, treatment, and management barriers. Despite international recognition of these challenges, there remains limited research addressing systemic health service delivery and access barriers for those with rare disorders, or identification of how such research informs policymaking.
METHODS: Dimensions, PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, CINAHL, and Ovid platform databases were employed in a search of qualitative research documenting the health service exp

INTRODUCTION: Somalia, the 44th largest country in the world by land area, struggles with a heavy burden of infectious diseases. Since 1991, populations have lacked essential health services, exacerbated by recurring infectious-disease outbreaks. Recurrent outbreaks of measles, cholera, and polio have devastated public health, generating significant morbidity and mortality. Despite improvements through new graduates, these issues remain unresolved. This study examines the impact of climate change on infectious-disease outbreaks in Somalia focusing on cholera, measles, and polio-to fill a gap i

BACKGROUND: The provision of quality obstetric care in health facilities is central to reducing maternal mortality, but simply increasing childbirth in facilities not enough, with evidence that many facilities in sub-Saharan Africa do not fulfil even basic requirements for safe childbirth care. There is ongoing debate on whether to recommend a policy of birth in hospitals, where staffing and capacity may be better, over lower level facilities, which are closer to women's homes and more accessible. Little is known about the quality of childbirth care in Liberia, where facility births have incre
