RESULTS: We conducted a survey before resmetirom approval of hepatology and gastroenterology providers practicing in 44 states. Surveys were sent to 747 providers with 304 complete responses (41%), of whom 260 (86%) work at a liver trans

Bridging the language gap in healthcare: assessing physicians' knowledge of simplified medical jargon in Arabic and their attitudes toward patient-physician communication training in Lebanese medical education.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Effective communication skills are crucial for strengthening the patient-physician relationship and ensuring high-quality patient care. While Arabic is Lebanon’s official and most widely spoken language, medical education is primarily conducted in English or French. This language barrier may hinder effective communication between doctors and patients from diverse educational backgrounds. This study aims to evaluate how the use of simplified medical terminology and the Arabic mother tongue affects physician-patient communication by assessing physicians’ knowledge of A

Nurses' Knowledge, Attitudes, Practices and Perceived Barriers to Early Mobilization of Patients in Intensive Care Units in Southeastern Iran.

BACKGROUND: Early mobilization (EM) in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) is a well-established strategy to mitigate complications of immobility, including ICU-acquired weakness, delirium and prolonged hospitalization. Despite strong clinical evidence and guideline recommendations supporting its safety and efficacy-even for mechanically ventilated patients-EM remains underutilized globally. Nurses, as frontline caregivers, play a pivotal role in EM implementation; however, gaps in their knowledge, attitudes and practices, along with perceived barriers, hinder its routine application, particularly in

"You better use the safer one… leave this one": the role of health providers in women's pursuit of their preferred family planning methods.

BACKGROUND: Universal access to quality sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services is pivotal to ensuring gender equality. In high-income countries, patient-provider interactions have been shown to shape women's decisions about contraception, with poor exchanges decreasing method uptake and satisfaction. While significant progress has been made to increase women's access to SRH services, in low- and middle-income countries, little is known about the quality of family planning patient-provider interactions. The primary objective of this analysis was to explore the role of health care provide

Ethics Guide Recommendations for Organ-Donation-Focused Physicians: Endorsed by the Canadian Medical Association.

Donation physicians are specialists with expertise in organ and tissue donation and have been recognized internationally as a key contributor to improving organ and tissue donation services. Subsequent to a 2011 Canadian Critical Care Society-Canadian Blood Services consultation, the donation physician role has been gradually implemented in Canada. These professionals are generally intensive care unit physicians with an enhanced focus and expertise in organ/tissue donation. They must manage the dual obligation of caring for dying patients and their families while providing and/or improving org

Diverging illness perceptions between physicians about patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and systemic sclerosis: a vignette-based study.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and systemic sclerosis (SSc) are complex chronic auto-immune diseases characterized by multiple organ involvement, comorbidities, and complications. This complexity results in a need for a multidisciplinary management and treatment of SLE and SSc by physicians from a number of medical disciplines, all of who may have different perceptions concerning the condition of a particular patient. The aim of this study was to explore differences in physicians' perceptions on the illness of SLE and SSc patients. Physicians from nine disciplines working at three hospital

Barriers to screening for intimate partner violence: a mixed-methods study of providers in family planning clinics.

CONTEXT: Universal screening for intimate partner violence has been recommended for health care settings. However, provider adherence to this recommendation is low, and little research has explored perspectives on relevant policies and procedures among providers in family planning centers. METHODS: In 2009, a sample of 75 health care staff from a large, urban family planning organization that has a protocol for screening for partner violence participated in focus group discussions about their attitudes toward, perceptions of barriers to and preparedness for such screening; 64 of them also com

Psychiatrists' attitude towards and knowledge of clozapine treatment.

Clozapine is, in most countries, underutilized and the initiation of clozapine is often delayed. The purpose of this study is to investigate the reasons for the delay and the underutilization of clozapine. One hundred psychiatrists were interviewed by phone. The interview was a structured interview with questions regarding attitude to, knowledge of and experiences with clozapine. Forty-eight (48%) psychiatrists had treatment responsibility of fewer than five patients treated with clozapine and 31 of the interviewed psychiatrists (31%) had started clozapine within the last 3 months. Seven psych

Nursing assistants' opinions of oral health care provision.

Understanding the attitudes and perceptions about oral health in nursing assistants (NAs) may facilitate efforts to improve daily oral care in long-term-care settings. By exploring the attitudes of individuals charged with daily oral care, we may gain insight into the level of care provided for the residents. To explore motivation for oral care by NAs, we developed a 28-item survey. The survey included descriptive information and a 20-item Likert-type instrument dealing with oral care for self-care and dependent individuals. Factor analysis was used to test the validity of the constructs inten

Acceptability of behavioral treatments: influence of knowledge of behavioral principles.

The relation of staff knowledge of behavioral principles to ratings of treatment acceptability for interventions used in the management of self-injurious behavior (SIB) was examined with 57 direct-care staff members from an ICF/MR. Case descriptions of an adult with severe mental retardation who exhibited SIB were presented, followed by descriptions of six behavioral interventions rated on acceptability. Subjects also completed a 25-item measure of general knowledge of behavioral principles. Results indicated that staff age and educational attainment but not treatment acceptability ratings wer
