Primary cardiac lymphoma (PCL) is an extremely rare disorder. In this report, a 57-year-old male with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma involving the heart and great vessels is presented. Trans-thoracic echocardiography was the first modality used to establish the diagnosis. Fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT) showed diffuse increased metabolic activity of the heart walls and hypermetabolic lesions occupying cardiac chambers in some areas. The patient underwent systemic chemotherapy, and after 13 days, a marked regression of the tumour mass

Germinal centre B-cell-like diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (GCB-DLBCL) is a common malignancy, yet the signalling pathways that are deregulated and the factors leading to its systemic dissemination are poorly defined. Work in mice showed that sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor-2 (S1PR2), a Gα12 and Gα13 coupled receptor, promotes growth regulation and local confinement of germinal centre B cells. Recent deep sequencing studies of GCB-DLBCL have revealed mutations in many genes in this cancer, including in GNA13 (encoding Gα13) and S1PR2 (refs 5,6, 7). Here we show, using in vitro and in vivo assa

FilGAP, a Rho GTPase-activating protein (GAP), acts as a mediator of Rho/ROCK (Rho-associated protein kinase)-dependent amoeboid movement, and its knockdown results in Rac-driven mesenchymal morphology. Herein, we focus on the possible roles of FilGAP expression in normal and malignant lymphocytes. Eighty-three cases of follicular lymphoma (FL), 84 of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), and 25 of peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL), as well as 10 of normal lymph nodes, were immunohistochemically investigated. In normal lymph nodes, FilGAP immunoreactivity was significantly higher in lymphocyt

BACKGROUND: Radioimmunotherapy (RIT) is a safe and effective therapeutic option for patients with indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL), in both up-front and relapsed/refractory settings. Two approved agents (90Y-ibritumomab tiuxetan and 131I-tositumomab) are available in the United States. Both target CD20 with similar clinical outcomes but with unique clinical considerations and radiation precautions due to the use of varying radioisotopes.
METHODS: This paper reviews the available evidence for these approved RIT agents and examines the recently published and ongoing clinical trials o

BACKGROUND: Epidemiological evidence has suggested an association between hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and B-cell lymphoproliferation. We studied the prevalence of HCV infection in a series of de novo B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (B-NHL) cases and correlated virological findings with clinico-histological features.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: One hundred fifty-seven patients with de novo B-NHL were included in the study. Their serum was examined by ELISA and RIBA for the presence of anti-HCV antibodies, and either the peripheral blood mononuclear cells or the pathology tissues of all of the pa

Our understanding of the ontology of B-cell lymphomas (BCL) has been improved by the study of mutational status of IgV(H) and bcl6 genes, but only a few cases of cutaneous BCL have been examined for this status. We analyzed IgV(H) and bcl6 somatic mutations in 10 cutaneous BCL, classified as follicular (three primary and one secondary), primary marginal zone (two cases), and diffuse large BCL (three primary and one secondary). We observed a lower rate (<2%) of IgV(H) mutation in all marginal zone lymphomas, and a preferential usage of V(H)2-70 (one primary follicular and two primary diffuse la

Primary cutaneous B-cell lymphomas (PCBCLs) are B-cell lymphomas that can occur in the skin without evidence of extracutaneous involvement. The 2005 WHO/EORTC classification of cutaneous lymphomas and its 2018 update have distinguished three main categories based on clinicopathological, immunohistochemical, and genetic characteristics: primary cutaneous marginal zone lymphoma (PCMZL), primary cutaneous follicle centre lymphoma (PCFCL), and primary cutaneous diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, leg type (PCDLBCL-LT). PCMZL and PCFCL are clinically indolent, while PCDLBCL-LT is an aggressive lymphoma.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is well known for its aetiological role in chronic non-A, non-B viral hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma; in addition, the virus has also been implicated in a number of extra-hepatic "autoimmune" disease manifestations. A causative association between HCV and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) was postulated relatively recently and has been the subject of intense investigation, as well as some debate. On the strength of epidemiological data, emerging biological investigations and clinical observations, HCV appears to be involved in the pathogenesis of at le

Four cases of B cell lymphoma, seen at the Department of Dermatology, Miyazaki Medical College, for the previous approximately 10 years, were reviewed. Case 1 was characterized by a localized tumours lesion on the head; the histologic picture was of the follicular, medium sized cell type. Complete remission for 8 years has been obtained after electron beam therapy and surgical removal of the tumor. Cases 2 and 3 had a histologic picture of diffuse, large cell type and were assumed to have a bad prognosis with standard chemotherapy. In addition to conventional chemotherapy, they were placed on

Activation of the Rel/NF-kappaB signal transduction pathway has been associated with a variety of animal and human malignancies. However, among the Rel/NF-kappaB family members, only c-Rel has been consistently shown to be able to malignantly transform cells in culture. In addition, c-rel has been activated by a retroviral promoter insertion in an avian B-cell lymphoma, and amplifications of REL (human c-rel) are frequently seen in Hodgkin's lymphomas and diffuse large B-cell lymphomas, and in some follicular and mediastinal B-cell lymphomas. Phenotypic analysis of c-rel knockout mice demonstr

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to describe the clinical characteristics and outcomes in cardiac non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL).
METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 94 cases of NHL with biopsy-proven cardiac involvement in PubMed between 1990 and 2015.
RESULTS: Among cases with cardiac involvement, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma was the most common histologic subtype (58%), followed by T-cell lymphoma (16%), Burkitt's lymphoma (9%), and small lymphocytic lymphoma (6%). Symptomatic heart failure was the most common clinical presentation (34%), and 20% of patients had no cardiac sympto

Over the past decade, monoclonal antibodies have dramatically impacted the treatment of haematological malignancies, as evidenced by the effect of rituximab on the response rate and survival of patients with follicular and diffuse large B cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Currently, only two monoclonal antibodies - the anti-CD33 immunotoxin gemtuzumab ozogamicin and the CD52-directed antibody alemtuzumab - are approved for treatment of relapsed acute myeloid leukaemia in older patients and B cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, respectively. Although not approved for such treatment, alemtuzumab is a

BACKGROUND: Lymphoma incidence is increased among human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected individuals soon after antiretroviral therapy (ART), perhaps due to unmasking immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS). Clinical characteristics and survival for unmasking lymphoma IRIS have not been described.
METHODS: We studied lymphoma patients in the Centers for AIDS Research Network of Integrated Clinical Systems (CNICS) from 1996 until 2011. Unmasking lymphoma IRIS was defined as lymphoma within 6 months after ART accompanied by a ≥ 0.5 log10 copies/mL HIV RNA reduction. Differences

OBJECTIVE: To identify cytological differences between mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma (MALT-L) and nonneoplastic lymphocytes using thyroid liquid-based cytology (LBC).
STUDY DESIGN: We observed LBC and conventional specimens from 35 MALT-L cases, 3 diffuse large B-cell cell lymphoma (DLBCL) cases, and 44 prominent nonneoplastic lymphocytic infiltration cases.
RESULTS: In MALT-L cases, the incidence of lymphoglandular bodies in the LBC specimens was lower than that in the conventional specimens (p < 0.001). Moreover, the nuclear sizes in LBC specimens were larger than those in con

Chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T) therapy has so far proved itself as a reliable therapeutic option for the treatment of relapsed/refractory (R/R) B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), multiple myeloma (MM), and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). However, this picture is not as colorful when it comes to the treatment of solid tumors mainly due to the lack of definitive tumor antigens, as well as the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironments and poor CAR-T infiltration. The recent developments in bioinformatics and cell biology, such as single-cell

Patients with hematologic malignancies have poor outcomes from COVID infection and are less likely to mount an antibody response after COVID infection. This is a retrospective study of adult lymphoma patients who received the COVID vaccine between 12/1/2020 and 11/30/2021. The primary endpoint was a positive anti-COVID spike protein antibody level following the primary COVID vaccination series. The primary vaccination series was defined as 2 doses of the COVID mRNA vaccines or 1 dose of the COVID adenovirus vaccine. Subgroups were compared using Fisher's exact test, and unadjusted and adjusted

Patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) are at a significantly increased risk of developing a second malignant neoplasm in the course of their disease. The occurrence of large cell lymphoma [Richter's syndrome (RS)] has been described in approximately 3-5% of CLL patients. Other types of secondary lymphoid malignancies are extremely rare. Here we describe a patient, heavily pretreated, with long history of CLL who developed a secondary follicular lymphoma, transformed into a diffuse large cell lymphoma (LCL), with isolated manifestation in the bone, a very rare manifestation of RS. Fas-ligand (FasL) is a member of the tumor necrosis factor family and transmits apoptotic cell death signal by binding to its receptor, Fas. FasL is expressed on the cell surface of activated T-cell and natural killer (NK) cell. It has been shown that the FasL can be released from the cell surface by metalloproteinase. The serum soluble FasL (sFasL) is increased in some patients with NK cell lymphoma/large granular lymphocytic leukemia. We have recently seen a patient with recurrent B-cell lymphoma accompanied with an increased serum sFasL level after autologous peripheral blood stem cell tran
