Limited associations between passive range of motion and gross motor function in ambulant/semi-ambulant children and adolescents with cerebral palsy: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common childhood motor disability, and the Cerebral Palsy Follow-Up Program (CPUP) in Nordic countries uses a traffic light system for passive range of motion (ROM) assessment to aid interpretation and guide decisions regarding interventions. However, the arbitrary chosen ROM threshold values and their potential clinical impact are uncertain. We investigated whether lower extremity ROM values were positively associated with gross motor function and whether gross motor function scores differ between the CPUP ROM thresholds. METHODS: This was

Free-breathing qRF-MRF with pilot tone respiratory motion navigator for T1, T2, T2*, and off-resonance mapping of the human body at 3 T.

Standard quantitative abdominal MRI techniques are time consuming, require breath-holds, and are susceptible to patient motion artifacts. Magnetic resonance fingerprinting (MRF) is naturally multi-parametric and quantifies multiple tissue properties, including T1 and T2. This work includes T2* and off-resonance mapping into a free-breathing MRF framework utilizing a pilot tone navigator. The new acquisition and reconstruction are compared to current clinical standards. Prospective. Ten volunteers. 3 T scanner, Quadratic-RF MRF, Balanced SSFP, Inversion recovery spin-echo, LiverLab. Effects of Upper Limb Robot-Assisted Rehabilitation Compared with Conventional Therapy in Patients with Stroke: Preliminary Results on a Daily Task Assessed Using Motion Analysis.

Robotic rehabilitation of the upper limb has demonstrated promising results in terms of the improvement of arm function in post-stroke patients. The current literature suggests that robot-assisted therapy (RAT) is comparable to traditional approaches when clinical scales are used as outcome measures. Instead, the effects of RAT on the capacity to execute a daily life task with the affected upper limb are unknown, as measured using kinematic indices. Through kinematic analysis of a drinking task, we examined the improvement in upper limb performance between patients following a robotic or conve

Diffusion-Derived Vessel Density Computed From a Simplified Intravoxel Incoherent Motion Imaging Protocol in Pregnancies Complicated by Early Preeclampsia: A Novel Biomarker of Placental Dysfunction.

BACKGROUND: Early preeclampsia is associated with significant placental hypoperfusion. We explore the diagnostic value of placental diffusion-derived vessel density (DDVD), a biomarker derived from diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging, which measures in vivo vessel microperfusion, in the differential diagnosis of normal and early preeclampsia pregnancies. METHODS: This was a prospective study involving 29 controls and 17 singleton pregnancies affected by early preeclampsia. Nineteen pregnancies from 28 to 34 weeks of gestational age were included from the normal group for a compariso

Placental perfusion using intravoxel incoherent motion MRI combined with Doppler findings in differentiating between very low birth weight infants and small for gestational age infants.

INTRODUCTION: Abnormalities in placental morphology and function can lead to small for gestational age infants (SGA) and very low birth weight infants (VLBWI). In this study, we explored the value of intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) histogram parameters, MRI morphological parameters, and Doppler findings of the placenta in differentiating between VLBWI and SGA. METHODS: Thirty-three pregnant women who were diagnosed with SGA and met the inclusion criteria were enrolled in this retrospective study and divided into two groups: 22 with non-VLBWI and 11 with VLBWI. The IVIM histogram parameter

Objective Determination of Eating Occasion Timing: Combining Self-Report, Wrist Motion, and Continuous Glucose Monitoring to Detect Eating Occasions in Adults With Prediabetes and Obesity.

BACKGROUND: Accurately identifying eating patterns, specifically the timing, frequency, and distribution of eating occasions (EOs), is important for assessing eating behaviors, especially for preventing and managing obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, existing methods to study EOs rely on self-report, which may be prone to misreporting and bias and has a high user burden. Therefore, objective methods are needed. METHODS: We aim to compare EO timing using objective and subjective methods. Participants self-reported EO with a smartphone app (self-report [SR]), wore the ActiGraph GT9X on

Evaluation of pharmacist time dedicated to vancomycin dosing in adult patients using a 24-hour AUC nomogram or trough monitoring approach: A time motion study.

PURPOSE: Evidence-based guideline recommendations for vancomycin dosing recently shifted from a trough-based strategy to an area under the curve (AUC) approach. While several AUC dosing methods exist, the optimal approach has not been determined. Literature characterizing time requirements for various vancomycin dosing strategies remains limited. METHODS: A time and motion study was conducted to measure the time spent by clinical pharmacists dosing vancomycin using an AUC nomogram. Pharmacists who dosed and monitored vancomycin for adult patients on the general medical ward (GMW) or intensive

Four-dimensional quantification on left atrial volume-strain in coronary heart disease patients without regional wall motion abnormalities: Correlation with the severity of coronary stenosis.

OBJECTIVE: Echocardiography is a time and cost-effective imaging modality, providing evidence of myocardial ischemia by detecting the regional wall motion abnormalities (RWMA). However, quite a few coronary heart disease (CHD) patients do not present RWMA. The left atrium (LA) plays an irreplaceable role in determining the prognosis and risk stratification of cardiovascular disease including CHD. In this present study, we intend to explore the myocardial mechanics changes of LA mainly using four-dimensional (4D) LA quantitative volume-strain in CHD patients without RWMA at rest but were confir

Use of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) to Limit Diaphragm Motion-A Novel Approach for Definitive Radiation Therapy for Inoperable Pleural Mesothelioma: A Pilot Study.

Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a deadly disease and radiotherapy (RT) plays an important role in its management. Recent developments in technique have made it is possible to deliver RT to MPM in the intact lung. However, it is imperative to reduce normal lung doses. We present a pilot study examining the use of CPAP and VMAT radiotherapy to reduce toxicity when treating MPM, involving three consecutive patients with MPM, not amenable to surgery, who were treated according to Helsinki committee approval. Patients were simulated using four-dimentional CT simulation with the assistance o

Classification of Parkinson's disease and essential tremor based on balance and gait characteristics from wearable motion sensors via machine learning techniques: a data-driven approach.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) and essential tremor (ET) are movement disorders that can have similar clinical characteristics including tremor and gait difficulty. These disorders can be misdiagnosed leading to delay in appropriate treatment. The aim of the study was to determine whether balance and gait variables obtained with wearable inertial motion sensors can be utilized to differentiate between PD and ET using machine learning. Additionally, we compared classification performances of several machine learning models. METHODS: This retrospective study included balance and gait vari

A case of recurrent takotsubo-like cardiomyopathy associated with pheochromocytoma exhibiting different patterns of left ventricular wall motion abnormality and coronary vasospasm: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Takotsubo-like cardiomyopathy associated with pheochromocytoma (Pheo-TTS) is a recognized but uncommon disorder. While Pheo-TTS might more often recur and the pattern of left ventricular (LV) wall motion abnormality is more diverse compared with primary TTS, it remains to be elucidated whether coronary functional abnormalities are also involved. CASE SUMMARY: A 50-year-old woman was referred with a chief complaint of transient chest pain, dyspnoea, and paroxysmal thyroid swelling that usually developed after meals. In the past, she had been admitted to emergency rooms three times

Beyond the global motion deficit hypothesis of developmental dyslexia: A cross-sectional study of visual, cognitive, and socio-economic factors influencing reading ability in children.

Although primarily conceptualized as a disorder of phonological awareness, developmental dyslexia is often associated with broader problems perceiving and attending to transient or rapidly-moving visual stimuli. However, the extent to which such visual deficits represent the cause or the consequence of dyslexia remains contentious, and very little research has examined the relative contributions of phonological, visual, and other variables to reading performance more broadly. We measured visual sensitivity to global motion (GM) and global form (GF), performance on various language and other co
