Fatigue in a simple repetitive motor task: a combined electrophysiological and neuropsychological study.

Fatigue is one of the most common psychophysiological symptoms that interact with the control mechanisms regulating task behaviour. The cortical processes involved in preparation and feedback control of voluntary movement are associated with EEG activity time-locked to movement onset: a pre-movement Movement-Related Cortical Potential (MRCP) is followed by a post-movement potential (PMP). The aim of this study was to determine whether changes in subjective fatigue which arise in the course of a simple repetitive motor task affect cortical information processing as measured by MRCPs or PMPs. How will family physicians care for the patient in the context of family and community?

Difficulties caring for patients in the context of family and community stem from problems of power and vulnerability. Patients are disempowered in relation to physicians and to the medical care system. Physicians are disempowered in their ability to provide comprehensive relationship-centered care to individuals and families because of economic constraints on medical care and limits on continuity of care. Individual patients are also vulnerable to abuses of power within their families because of physical and sexual abuse; the recognition of such abuses and appropriate interventions for them r

Date rape among adolescents and young adults.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents and young adults are four times more likely to be victims of sexual assault than women in all other age groups. In the vast majority of these cases, the perpetrator is an acquaintance of the victim. Date rape is a subset of acquaintance rape where nonconsensual sex occurs between two people who are in a romantic relationship. METHODS: We conducted a MEDLINE and Current Concepts search for articles relating to date rape and then systematically reviewed all relevant articles. RESULTS: Lifetime prevalence of date or acquaintance rape ranges from 13% to 27% among college-

METHODS: Three hundred forty-five adolescents were interviewed about their beliefs regarding the consequences of using the pill and about their intentions to use the pill and other contraceptive methods. Follow-up interviews were conducted 1 year later, during which subjects reported their sexual activit

Perseverance pays off: health care providers' impact on HIV testing decisions by adolescent females.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Although HIV counseling and testing of adolescents has increased rapidly in recent years due to increasing HIV seroprevalence rates, little is known about adolescents' use of HIV testing services. The aims of this study were to determine what proportion of high risk adolescent girls would use confidential HIV testing services linked to primary care and to explore the characteristics, beliefs, and experiences that distinguish those teenage girls who obtain HIV testing in this setting from those who do not. DESIGN: Prospective cohort study. SETTING: General pediatrics

AIDS epidemic in Kagera region, Tanzania--the experiences of local people.

This study is part of a collaborative study of HIV infection and AIDS which was launched in 1987 in the Kagera region, Tanzania. This region is characterized as one of the areas most affected by the AIDS epidemic. In order to describe and analyse the epidemiology of HIV infection in the area and also to contribute to the intervention process, a long-term population-based project was initiated. The study was launched in January 1989 as an in-depth behavioural study to describe the experiences of the local people of the AIDS epidemic in the region. Mental health care following stillbirth and termination of pregnancy: practice patterns and observed outcomes in a reproductive psychiatry center.

BACKGROUND: Late pregnancy loss, including stillbirth (following intrauterine fetal death) and termination of pregnancy (TOP), can cause a variety of poor psychiatric outcomes. This study aims to describe treatment practices and outcomes among women following stillbirth and TOP, and to identify factors associated with these outcomes. METHODS: This retrospective study identified all women who experienced late pregnanc

Methods: A two-phase sequential qualitative design was used. Phase 1 analyzed 871 valid discussion topics from a Chinese digital diabetes community. P

Mitigating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Risk Through Gender-Sensitive Trauma-Informed Care in the Emergency Department-A Narrative Review.

BACKGROUND: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric condition that can develop after trauma and imposes substantial, long-term morbidity. Emergency departments (EDs), as the initial point of healthcare contact, can reduce patients' risk of developing PTSD following trauma exposure through trauma-informed care (TIC). Women face a two- to threefold higher PTSD incidence than men and show distinct symptom patterns, indicating that clinical approaches should be adapted to reflect these differences in trauma response. OBJECTIVES: To present a narrative review that summarizes current

Factors affecting patients' journey with primary healthcare services during mental health-related sick leave.

CONTEXT: Best practice guidelines for the recovery and return to work (RTW) of people with mental disorders recommend access to the services of an interdisciplinary team combining pharmacological, psychological and work rehabilitation interventions. In the Canadian context, primary healthcare services are responsible for providing these services for people with common mental disorders, such as depressive or anxiety disorders. However, not everyone has easy access to these recommended primary healthcare services, and previous studies suggest that multiple personal, practice-related and organiza

The influence of ethnicity on the health of older women.

There is increasing evidence that ethnicity is an important factor as one ages that serves as an integrating force to help an older woman filter her personal experience with aging and to pass through significant life changes, such as being a cultural and health resource for family and community, becoming a grandmother, retiring, or moving in with family when frailty occurs. Ethnicity also can act as a buffer to the visccitudes of old age. When the surrounding environment, especially the health care environment, encourages expression and the reaffirmation of ethnicity, we find examples of succe

Understanding Behavioral Influences on Eating Disorders and App Engagement to Inform Eating Disorder App Development: Qualitative Online Focus Groups With Adults With Lived Experience.

BACKGROUND: Eating disorders (EDs) are severe mental health conditions driven by psychological, social, and emotional factors and have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder. Although evidence-based, theory-driven behavior change interventions are the gold standard, access to treatment remains limited. Digital interventions, such as apps, may offer accessible support for individuals with mild to moderate EDs; however, their development has rarely been guided by systematic behavior change frameworks. Consequently, many interventions inadequately target the mechanisms underlying

Tele-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for the Treatment of Diabetes-Related Distress in Individuals With Diabetes Mellitus: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

BACKGROUND: Diabetes-related distress (DD) is highly prevalent in individuals with diabetes mellitus (DM) and impairs quality of life. Tele-cognitive behavioral therapy (Tele-CBT) shows potential for reducing DM-related psychological distress; prior research focused primarily on in-person cognitive behavioral therapy, leaving Tele-CBT's efficacy poorly characterized. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review aims to evaluate Tele-CBT effects on DD, depressive/anxiety symptoms, and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels. Concordance Study of Diagnoses and Therapeutic Management for Military Personnel Evacuated for Medico-psychological Reasons: From the Theater of Operations to the Military Training Hospital.

INTRODUCTION: The evolving global landscape has led to increased involvement of the French armed forces, exposing military personnel to operational challenges that can affect their mental well-being. As a result, psychiatry has become the second most common reason for Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC). In war zones where specialized medico-psychological consultations may not be readily available, medical officers play a vital role in providing initial care. Therefore, there is a growing emphasis on the precise evaluation of these practices. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this retrospective observationa
