Self-reported hepatitis B testing among noninstitutionalized adults in the United States before the implementation of universal screening, 2013-2017: A nationwide population-based study.

In 2023, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended universal screening for hepatitis B virus (HBV); however, the proportion of US adults screened before implementing this recommendation is unknown. We analysed nationally representative data from the National Health Interview Survey (2013-2017) on self-reported HBV testing among noninstitutionalized US adults ≥18 years. We employed Poisson logistic regression to identify factors associated with self-reported testing, using a conceptual framework that included four overarching factors: sociodemographic characteristics, health

Rhamnose-PEG-induced supramolecular helices: Addressing challenges of drug solubility and release efficiency in transdermal patch.

Transdermal drug delivery systems (TDDS) demand both high drug loading capacity and efficient delivery. In order to improve both simultaneously, this study aims to develop a novel rhamnose-induced pressure-sensitive adhesive (HPR) by dispersing the drug in the supramolecular helical structure. Ten model drugs, categorized as acidic and basic compounds, were chosen to understand the characteristics of the HPR and its inner mechanism. Notably, it enhanced drug loading by 1.41 to 5 times over commercially available pressure-sensitive adhesives Duro-Tak@ 87-4098 and Duro-Tak@ 87-2287, in addition

Effect of area-level socioeconomic deprivation on mental and physical health: A longitudinal natural experiment among refugees in Germany.

Existing studies on contextual health effects struggle to account for compositional bias, limiting causal interpretation. We use refugee dispersal in Germany as a natural experiment to study the effect of area-level socioeconomic deprivation on mental and physical health, while considering the potential mediating role of neighbourhood characteristics. Refugees subject to dispersal (n = 1466) are selected from a nation-wide longitudinal refugee study (IAB-SOEP-BAMF Panel; 2016-2018). Multi-level linear regression models, adjusted for age, sex, education, country of origin, federal state, asylum

Cell penetrating peptides-functionalized Licochalcone-A-loaded PLGA nanoparticles for ocular inflammatory diseases: Evaluation of in vitro anti-proliferative effects, stabilization by freeze-drying and characterization of an in-situ forming gel.

Licochalcone-A (Lico-A) PLGA NPs functionalized with cell penetrating peptides B6 and Tet-1 are proposed for the treatment of ocular anti-inflammatory diseases. In this work, we report the in vitro biocompatibility of cell penetrating peptides-functionalized Lico-A-loaded PLGA NPs in Caco-2 cell lines revealing a non-cytotoxic profile, and their anti-inflammatory activity against RAW 264.7 cell lines. Given the risk of hydrolysis of the liquid suspensions, freeze-drying was carried out testing different cryoprotectants (e.g., disaccharides, alcohols, and oligosaccharide-derived sugar alcohol)

Using pre-fracture mobility to augment prediction of post-operative outcomes in hip fracture.

PURPOSE: Pre-operative scores based on patient characteristics are commonly used to predict hip fracture outcomes. Mobility, an indicator of pre-operative function, has been neglected as a potential predictor. We assessed the ability of pre-fracture mobility to predict post-operative outcomes following hip fracture. METHODS: We analysed prospectively collected data from hip fracture surgery patients at a large-volume trauma unit. Mobility was classified into four groups. Post-operative outcomes studied were mortality and residence at 30 days, medical complications within 30- or 60-days post-o

Trends in attachment to a primary care provider in Ontario, 2008-2018: an interrupted time-series analysis.

BACKGROUND: Attachment to a regular primary care provider is associated with better health outcomes, but 15% of people in Canada lack a consistent source of ongoing primary care. We sought to evaluate trends in attachment to a primary care provider in Ontario in 2008-2018, through an equity lens and in relation to policy changes in implementation of payment reforms and team-based care. METHODS: Using linked, population-level administrative data, we conducted a retrospective observational study to calculate rates of patients attached to a regular primary care provider from Apr. 1, 2008, to Mar

Better Existing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Can Reduce the Risk of Cholera in an Endemic Setting: Results From a Prospective Cohort Study From Kolkata, India.

BACKGROUND: Global cholera control efforts rely heavily on effective water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) interventions in cholera-endemic settings. METHODS: Using data from a large, randomized controlled trial of oral cholera vaccine conducted in Kolkata, India, we evaluated whether natural variations in WASH in an urban slum setting were predictive of cholera risk. From the control population (n = 55 086), baseline WASH data from a randomly selected "training subpopulation" (n = 27 634) were analyzed with recursive partitioning to develop a dichotomous ("better" vs "not better") composite

Comparative assessment of factors affecting anxiety levels among adults attending online meditation sessions during the COVID-19 pandemic: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: The ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic induced the governments around the world to impose harsher preventive measures like stay at home order, lock down etc., to contain the spread of infection. This measure increased the stress of the general population through isolation of masses, loss of employment, and loss of recreation. There is a dearth of quality data showing anxiety levels among the population and association of novel nonpharmaceutical measures such as online meditation with it. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study is a cross-sectional comparative study base
