OBJECT: Reports on the surgical treatment of brain metastases from melanoma in a large group of patients are sparse. The goal of this paper is to review the surgical experience in a series of 91 patients with brain metastases from primary melanoma treated at a single institution.

This study compared three types of postoperative management of patients undergoing endoscopic plantar fasciotomy. Oral lichen planus (OLP) carries a very small probability of becoming malignant. Our Finnish series comprised eight patients suffering from OLP and concurrent or subsequent oral squamous cell carcinoma over a 10-year period. The mean interval between the histologically suggested initial diagnosis of OLP and carcinoma was 3.4 years. From fiscal years 1992 through 1996, 14 African hedgehog (Atelerix albiventris) cases were submitted to the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory at Purdue University. The most common diagnoses were splenic extramedullary hematopoiesis (91%), hepatic lipidosis (50%), renal disease (50%), and neoplastic disease (29%). Other less frequent necropsy findings were myocarditis (21%), colitis (14%), bacterial septicemia (14%), and pneumonia (14%). The data indicate that splenic extramedullary hematopoiesis, hepatic lipidosis, renal disease, and neoplasms are frequent postmortem findings in hedgehogs.

Frozen lamellar corneal grafts and nictitating membrane flaps were used in 18 dogs and 12 cats to repair deep corneal defects. In all dogs either melting corneal ulcers or descemetoceles were present. In the 12 cats, nine had either a melting corneal ulcer or descemetocele, two animals had acute bullous keratopathy, and one cat had corneal sequestrum. The authors performed a retrospective study of the safety and efficacy of toenail phenol and alcohol chemical matrixectomy in diabetic versus nondiabetic patients. AIM: To investigate the relationship between morphology and position of double teeth, and the occurrence of other dental anomalies in the same subjects and in their siblings. SAMPLE OF CHILDREN AND METHODS: Fifty-three double teeth in a group of 50 Spanish children were included in the study. All of these children were examined clinically and had radiographs and photographs taken at the time of examination. Twenty-two of the children had a total of 30 siblings who were also examined for the presence of anomalies.
RESULTS: Of the 50 subjects, 47 had one and three subjects had two double teeth.
