Association of high sensitivity C-reactive protein with tearing of the long head of the biceps tendon.

BACKGROUND: This study proposed to investigate whether high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) is an independent risk factor for long head of biceps tendon (LHBT) tear and whether hs-CRP can increase accuracy in diagnosing LHBT tear. METHODS: This study involved 582 shoulders of 557 consecutive patients who received arthroscopic examinations at the authors' institution between January 2010 and July 2018. The strengths of associations between LHBT tear and various factors were determined by calculating the odds ratios (ORs), with 95% confidence intervals (CIs), using logistic regression a

The hung up shoulder: anterior subluxation locking in abduction.

The hung up shoulder, or anterior subluxation locking in abduction, is a bizarre clinical picture which is not frequently seen. It is probably due to the fact that, in the subluxed position, the subscapularis muscle becomes an abductor, rather than an internal rotator. External rotation might shift the subscapular muscle fibres towards the proximal aspect of the humeral head, while joint laxity favors subluxation. It is possible that the hung up shoulder is just one aspect of multidirectional shoulder instability, given the tendency to generalised joint laxity, the frequent autoreduction, the

Biomechanics of manual wheeled propulsion in children and adolescents with neuromuscular disorders: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Manual wheelchair use supports independence and participation for children with neuromuscular disorders; however, pediatric propulsion biomechanics remain poorly defined. Clinical practice often relies on adult data despite developmental differences in growth, motor control, and endurance. A pediatric-specific synthesis is needed to inform wheelchair prescription, training, and shoulder preservation strategies. This scoping review aimed to map biomechanical outcomes, methods, and propulsion protocols in pediatric manual wheelchair users with neuromuscular disorders, while identifyi

Functional and Reconstructive Outcomes of Square Flap in Postburn Axillary Contracture.

Background and aim Post-burn axillary contracture (PBAC) represents a frequent and disabling sequela of burn injury, often impairing shoulder movement and hindering daily activities. Due to its promising functional and cosmetic outcome, the square flap technique has recently gained attention, yet data in the Bangladeshi context remain scarce. This study was planned to assess the functional and reconstructive outcomes of the square flap technique in PBAC reconstruction. Methods A prospective observational study was conducted at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, Dhaka, from Jan

Human dermal allograft augmentation in primary and revision arthroscopic rotator cuff repair: a retrospective controlled study including patient outcomes and ultrasound evaluation of tendon healing.

PURPOSE: Rotator cuff (RC) tears are common in older adults, often leading to muscle atrophy. Standard arthroscopic repair has high re-tear rates, prompting the use of biological patches for augmentation. This study assessed differences in range of motion, strength, and tendon healing using ultrasound in primary and revision RC repairs using acellular dermal allograft augmentation. METHODS: Forty-eight patients undergoing arthroscopic RC repair with dermal allograft augmentation were assessed, with 42 completing a median follow-up of 32.4 months. Twenty patients had primary repairs and 22 had

Influence of humeral lengthening on clinical outcomes in reverse shoulder arthroplasty.

BACKGROUND: Deltoid tensioning secondary to humeral lengthening after reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) is commonly theorized to be crucial to improving range of motion (ROM) but may predispose patients to acromial/scapular spine fractures and neurologic injury. Clinical evidence linking patient outcomes to humeral lengthening is limited. This study assesses the relationship between humeral lengthening and clinical outcomes after RSA. METHODS: A single institution review of 284 RSAs performed in 265 patients was performed. Humeral lengthening was defined as the difference in the subacromial

Baseball players diagnosed with ulnar collateral ligament tears demonstrate decreased balance compared to healthy controls.

STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional. OBJECTIVES: To compare lower extremity balance and shoulder range of motion in baseball players with ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) tears to a healthy cohort. Background Throwing is a complex motion that requires balance and coordination to effectively transfer energy through the kinetic chain. In theory, poorer balance could negatively affect throwing mechanics and lead to injury. METHODS: Thirty baseball players (mean ± SD age, 18.5 ± 1.9 years) with a diagnosis of a UCL tear of their throwing arm were compared to 30 players (age, 19.0 ± 1.1 years) without a
