[Prevalence of antiepithelial cell antibody in systemic vasculitis and identification of the target antigen thereof].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the prevalence of antiepithelial cell antibody (AECA) in systemic vasculitis (SV) and the target antigen thereof. METHOD: Sera of 113 patients with SV of different kinds, 46 patients with Behcet's disease, 23 patients with Takayasu arteritis, 19 patients with Wegener's granulomatosis, 8 patients with polyarteritis nodosa, 7 patients with microscopic polyangiitis, and 10 patients with Churg-Strauss syndrome were collected to detect the protein expression of AECA by Western blotting, with the protein of the endothelial cells of the line EA. hy926 line as substrate. AIMS: Autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (autoPBSCT) is increasingly and successfully applied to patients with treatment- … ients with treatment-resistant vasculitis (Wegener granulomatosis, Churg Strauss syndrome, Takayasu arteritis and relapsing polychondritis) received an autologous PBSCT. Stem cell mobilization was performed with cyclophosphamide (CY) and G-CSF, stem cells were purged by positively selecting CD34+ stem cells over a CliniMacs device, and the conditioning was …

[The best of clinical pharmacology in 2002].

The results of several large therapeutic cardiovascular trials were reported in 2002. The LIFE study concluded that losartan is superior com … d in 2002 in the field of therapeutic angiogenesis as much at the myocardial level as in lower limb arteritis. Finally, 2002 was marked by the publication of the WHI study which intensified suspicions regarding hormonal substitution treatment, confirming the advantage of not only secondary but perhaps primary cardiovascular prevention.

Incidental asymptomatic cerebral aneurysms in patients with extracranial cerebrovascular disease: is this a case against carotid endarterectomy without arteriography?

As less arteriography is performed before carotid surgery, concern arises about missing occult cerebral aneurysms and possible adverse outco … t polycystic kidney disease, extracranial internal carotid artery medial fibrodysplasia, Takayasu's arteritis, alpha1-antitripsin deficiency and atypical clinical presentations, including headache.

[Immunological analysis of HTLV-I env-pX transgenic rat with various collagen vascular diseases].

Human T lymphocyte virus type-I (HTLV-I) is an etiologic agent of not only adult T cell leukemia but also HTLV-I associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis, HTLV-I associated arthropathy and other immunological disorders, such as Sjögren syndrome, dermatitis, polymyositis, and uveitis. We recently reported that a wide spectrum of collagen vascular diseases, including inflammatory arthropathy resembling rheumatoid arthritis, myocarditis, dermatitis, necrotizing arteritis, myositis and sialoadenitis similar to Sjögren's syndrome, developed in the transgenic rat carrying HTLV-I env-pX reg…

The role of the microbial flora in uremia. II. Uremic colitis, cardiovascular lesions, and biochemical observations.

Uremic colitis of varying severity occurred in the majority of conventionalized rats dying after removal of both kidneys, but was not found … total plasma calcium and inorganic phosphorus levels of individual animals. Generalized necrotizing arteritis was not observed. Wound healing was poor in all uremic rats regardless of microbial status. Focal infection was noted in a few conventionalized rats dying from uremia, did not correlate with survival time, and was absent in all other groups. Compari …

Rare and emerging arterial diseases of the supra-aortic trunks: Diagnostic and therapeutic insights.

Diseases of the supra-aortic trunks (SATs) encompass a broad and heterogeneous group of arterial disorders, ranging from classic inflammatory vasculitis to recently recognized, non-atherosclerotic entities. While atherosclerosis remains the predominant cause of SATs stenosis, up to 10% of carotid or subclavian artery lesions occur in patients without established cardiovascular risk factors. These rare conditions are increasingly identified through advances in vascular imaging, which now allow detailed analysis of the vessel wall. Among the most notable emerging entities are Transient Perivascu

APDS patients with immune-complex vasculitis and resolution with leniolisib.

Activated phosphoinositide 3-kinase delta syndrome (APDS) is an inborn error of immunity with heterogeneous clinical manifestations of infections, immune dysregulation, autoimmunity; lymphoproliferation; and malignancy. Immune complex-mediated vasculitides have not yet been described in APDS patients. Here we offer a case series of three patients with APDS who have refractory IgA vasculitis (also called Henoch-Schönlein purpura), a form of immune complex-mediated vasculitis that activates complement and attracts neutrophils, macrophages and eosinophils to cause local tissue injury. Leniolisib

Vasculitis subtypes included Giant cell arteritis in 24 patients (34%), Behçet's-like syndrome in 11 patients (20%) and polyarteritis nodosa in 6 patients (9%). Glucocorticoids (GCs) were used as first-line therapy for MDS/CMML vasculitis in 64/70 patients (91%) and 41 (59%) received combined immun …

[Dramatic evolution of a bilateral femoral artery aneurysm in a 16-year-old girl].

Femoral artery aneurysm is a rare entity among the vascular complications of Takayasu's disease. It is sometimes characterized by the risk of serious local complications with hemorrhagic or ischemic event, as well as by a big therapeutic handling difficulty. We report a case of bilateral femoral artery aneurysm in a 16-year-old girl having a dramatic evolution turn after surgical treatment and irreversible limb ischemia.

[Large vessels vasculopathy in systemic sclerosis].

Vasculopathy in systemic sclerosis is a severe, in many cases irreversible, manifestation that can lead to amputation. While the classical clinical manifestations of the disease have to do with the involvement of microcirculation, proximal vessels of upper and lower limbs can also be affected. This involvement of large vessels may be related to systemic sclerosis, vasculitis or atherosclerotic, and the differential diagnosis is not easy. To conduct a proper and early diagnosis, it is essential to start prompt appropriate treatment. In this review, we examine the involvement of large vessels in

Treatment of nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy.

Nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) is the most common clinical presentation of acute ischemic damage to the optic nerve. Most treatments proposed for NAION are empirical and include a wide range of agents presumed to act on thrombosis, on the blood vessels, or on the disk edema itself. Others are presumed to have a neuroprotective effect. Although there have been multiple therapies attempted, most have not been adequately studied, and animal models of NAION have only recently emerged. The Ischemic Optic Neuropathy Decompression Trial, the only class I large multicenter pro

Bentall operation with saphenous vein graft for a Takayasu's aortitis patient.

Takayasu's aortitis patients present a variety of symptoms, including angina pectoris, aortic valve regurgitation, and aortic branch stenosis. The case described in this paper primarily presented with angina pectoris. Close investigation revealed a left coronary artery ostium lesion, an aortic root aneurysm, and a mild aortic regurgitation. The patient underwent a modified Bentall operation with saphenous vein graft (SVG) replacement of the left main trunk. The postoperative course was uneventful, and the patient received oral steroid therapy. SVG is a useful option in treating aortic root ane
