BACKGROUND: Perinatal probiotics supplementation has been shown to be effective in the primary prevention of atopic dermatitis (AD) in early childhood, although the long term effects of probiotics on AD and other allergic diseases is less certain. We have previously reported a significant reduction in the cumulative incidence of AD at 2 years after maternal probiotic supplementation. In this study we present the effects of perinatal probiotics given to women from a general population on allergy related diseases in their offspring at 6 years.

BACKGROUND: When administered transdermally, desonide is ineffective due to its poor solubility. As a new transdermal delivery system, nanoemulsion gel has demonstrated significant advantages for drug delivery over conventional formulations. BACKGROUND: Respiratory allergy, commonly manifesting as allergic rhinitis (AR) and asthma, is a chronic progressive disease that frequently starts in childhood. Allergy immunotherapy (AIT) is the only causal treatment for respiratory allergy with the potential to modify the underlying cause of allergy and, ultimately, prevent disease progression. This analysis aimed to determine if AIT is received sufficiently early to halt the progression of allergic disease, by characterizing the burden and progression of disease in children prior to AIT initiation in real-life clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: Chronic actinic dermatitis (CAD) is an immune-mediated photo-allergic skin disease. In the clinic, the treatment of this disease is hampered by the lack of proper understanding of the skin barrier dysfunction mechanism.
OBJECTIVE: To illuminate the mechanism of skin barrier dysfunction in CAD.
METHODS: Transcriptome sequencing and protein profiling were used to detect skin barrier injury-related genes. RNA pull down, a promoter-reporter gene assay, and chromatin isolation by RNA purification-sequencing were used to elucidate the effect of WAKMAR2 in skin barrier functionality.

A 24-year-old man with a long history of severe atopic eczema presented with a marked exacerbation requiring hospital admission. It emerged that his occupation as an animal house technician required him to work closely with laboratory animals, particularly mice and rats. Radioallergosorbent tests to mice allergens were markedly elevated. Avoidance of animal work, in conjunction with medical treatment, resulted in a marked improvement of his eczema.
