Scalp cooling versus standard cold-cap in preventing chemotherapy-induced alopecia in patients with localized breast cancer: ICELAND protocol, a randomized controlled trial and economic evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Chemotherapy-induced alopecia (CIA) remains one of the most distressing adverse effects for patients with localized breast cancer receiving anthracycline and taxane-based chemotherapy regimens. Although automated scalp cooling systems and standard non-automated cold-cap devices have demonstrated efficacy in reducing CIA, controlled trials with direct randomization comparing these two modalities of scalp cooling are lacking. This study aims to compare clinical efficacy, patient-reported outcomes, and medico-economic impact of a scalp cooling system (PAXMAN® PSCS 2) versus standard c

The development of preterm infants from low socio-economic status families: The combined effects of melatonin, autonomic nervous system maturation and psychosocial factors (ProMote): A study protocol.

Preterm births constitute a major public health issue and a chronic, cross-generational condition globally. Psychological and biological factors interact in a way that women from low socio-economic status (SES) are disproportionally affected by preterm delivery and at increased risk for the development of perinatal mental health problems. Low SES constitutes one of the most evident contributors to poor neurodevelopment of preterm infants. Maternal perinatal mental health disorders have persistent effects on behavioral and physiological functioning throughout the lifespan and may even be eviden

The Effect of Depression on the Pathways Between an Economic Strengthening Intervention and ART Adherence in Youths with HIV: Findings from a Moderated Mediation Model of the Suubi + Adherence Cluster-Randomized Study.

Adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV) have low adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART). Poverty and mental health challenges remain major drivers of this poor ART adherence. We explored the mediators of the impact of an economic empowerment intervention on ART adherence among ALHIV and assessed the moderating effects of depression. We randomized 39 clinics (702 participants) into the control or intervention groups. Participants were aged 10-16, living with HIV and taking ART. The intervention comprising matched savings account, financial literacy training, and microenterprise workshops. We fit

Daily defined dose-costs have a stronger influence on antibacterial drug prescriptions in Germany than bacterial resistance: economic factors are more important than scientific evidence.

Previous research from our group revealed a strong association between daily defined dose (DDD)-costs and -prescriptions of antibacterial drugs in Germany ( https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38842562/ ; https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39042156/ ). These data indicate that low costs are major driver of high prescription numbers. This study examines the relationship between bacterial resistance and DDD-prescriptions of antibacterial drugs using data from the Arzneiverordnungsreport (AVR) from 2008 to 2022 and the Antibiotic Resistance Surveillance (ARS) statistics provided by the Robert Koch Insti
