BACKGROUND: Recent years have seen a trend toward more operative treatment of upper extremity fractures in children. Plaque morphea is a superficial type of morphea (localized scleroderma) which is characterized by various fibrotic areas of the dermis without systemic features. We present a 63-year-old man with morphea en plaque. The skin on his forearms and feet was taut, thickened and hidebound with scattered telangiectatic changes. Tefillin (phylacteries) are a religious article worn by observant Jewish men. Only two cases of allergic contact dermatitis from tefillin have been reported previously. We describe 7 new cases of tefillin contact dermatitis and review the literature on contact allergy caused by religious objects and practices. All our patients had contact allergy to potassium dichromate, which was the only allergen relevant to tefillin .

In 1988, Ramsay et al proposed an entity of acral pseudolymphomatous angiokeratoma of children (with an abbreviation of APACHE) for the unilateral multiple angiomatous papules affecting the acral region of the extremities of children. We report here similar lesions that developed in the acral portions of 1 female adolescent and 2 women. Histopathologically, they showed pseudolymphomatous features rather than those of angiokeratoma. Thus, the term should be acral angiokeratoma-like pseudolymphoma would be more appropriate than APACHE originally proposed.

Amniotic band syndrome is one of the many causes of aplasia cutis congenita. It is usually seen as a constriction band surrounding a limb or as a membrane that adheres to some part of the body. This syndrome can be associated with various malformations. An infant with amniotic adhesions producing aplasia cutis, radial palsy, and hypoplasia of the radius is presented. Early treatment led to total functional recovery of the affected limb.

We report two cases of nerve abscesses, one suffering from lepromatous leprosy (LL) and the other from tuberculoid neural leprosy. Neither had any signs of reactions. Both were untreated cases. Surgical nerve decompression and systemic prednisolone had resolved the nerve abscess in the first case, whereas the second one responded only to surgical nerve decompression. The unusual nature of clinical presentation of nerve abscess has been outlined.
