BACKGROUND: Individuals with a high risk of stroke are also more prone to cognitive impairment perhaps because of concomitant vascular risk factors. In addition, clinical stroke increases the risk of subsequent dementia. Nevertheless, the relationship between clinical stroke and subsequent cognitive function in initially nondemented individuals remains less clear as most prior studies examined case series without controls.
AIMS: To specify among nondemented individuals the cognitive domains affected by clinical stroke, independently of vascular risk factors and prestroke cognition.

Carcinoid tumors are rare and aggressive malignancies. A multitude of vasoactive agents are central to the systemic effects of these tumors. The additional burden of cardiac dysfunction heralds a steep decline in quality of life and survival. We report a very rare case of a heart transplanted man with angiographic documentation of multiple congenital fistulae arising from both coronary arteries and draining into main pulmonary artery. A transthoracic echocardiogram and right heart catheterization were also performed, to assess the functional importance of the shunt. We also carried out a brief review about this rare condition and we reported considerations about its prognosis and treatment.
