Clinical evaluation of the effect of attenuation correction technique on 18F-fluoride PET images.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate effect of attenuation correction technique on 18F-fluoride positron emission tomography (PET). METHODS: We performed PET scans after the injection of 185 MBq 18F-fluoride on 32 patients from October 20th, 2004 to April 13th, 2005. We calculated bone-to-muscle ratios for the images with and without attenuation correction. We placed regions of interest (ROIs) on normal bone accumulation in 22 patients. The exclusion criteria were bone metastasis, Paget's disease, and rheumatoid arthritis. Several regions were chosen for ROI placement: skull, c

Utility of 18F-FDG PET/CT uptake patterns in Waldeyer's ring for differentiating benign from malignant lesions in lateral pharyngeal recess of nasopharynx.

UNLABELLED: Focally increased (18)F-FDG uptake in the lateral pharyngeal recess (LPR) of the nasopharynx due to a benign or malignant lesion is not an uncommon finding on PET images. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether, on PET/CT images, (18)F-FDG uptake occurs with characteristic patterns and intensities in various regions of Waldeyer's ring that can improve our ability to differentiate benign from malignant lesions. METHODS: Data generated from the (18)F-FDG PET/CT images of 1,628 subjects in our cancer-screening program were analyzed. Increased uptake in the LPR was observed in 8

MemAF-KTCBM: a Memory-Aware Fractional optimisation-enabled deep learning model for atherosclerosis classification.

Atherosclerosis, a chronic vascular disorder caused by the abnormal functioning of blood vessels, remains a major contributor to cardiovascular diseases. Although recent advances in machine learning and deep learning have improved atherosclerosis classification, several critical challenges persist, particularly class imbalance, high computational complexity, limited interpretability, and poor generalisation, which constrain their clinical utility. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a novel Memory-Aware Fractional optimisation-assisted Knowledge-distilled mutual-conditioned dynam

Correspondence between gated SPECT and cardiac magnetic resonance quantified myocardial wall thickening.

Left ventricular (LV) wall thickening (WT) assessed from myocardial perfusion (MP) gated SPECT data has been reported to be a marker of functional recovery following myocardial damage. However, the accuracy of WT measurements obtained in the clinical setting rarely has been validated against an independent quantitative reference standard. The purpose of this investigation was to assess the degree to which quantified MP WT agrees with cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) WT measurements, and to determine whether quantitation is as accurate as visual analysis in detecting abnormal regional WT. MP an

Real Time Hand Movement Trajectory Tracking for Enhancing Dementia Screening in Ageing Deaf Signers of British Sign Language.

Real time hand movement trajectory tracking based on machine learning approaches may assist the early identification of dementia in ageing Deaf individuals who are users of British Sign Language (BSL), since there are few clinicians with appropriate communication skills, and a shortage of sign language interpreters. Unlike other computer vision systems used in dementia stage assessment such as RGBD video with the aid of depth camera, activities of daily living (ADL) monitored by information and communication technologies (ICT) facilities, or X-Ray, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resona

CBCT assisted diagnosis system for temporomandibular joint disc displacement based on deep learning.

BACKGROUND: The diagnosis of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc displacement relies on clinical symptoms and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which is complex, costly and time-consuming. Although cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) reveals indirect signs suggestive of TMJ disc displacement, manual interpretation remains expertise-dependent, thereby limiting its use in clinical practice. This study aims to predict the presence of TMJ disc displacement risk in CBCT images using deep learning techniques. METHODS: By leveraging the CBCT images of 330 patients, a two-stage TMJ disc displacement

Insights into the Complexities of Pharmacotherapy Parameters in Artificial Intelligence Models for Drug Selection, Precision Personalised Medicine and Optimal Therapeutic Outcomes.

Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming pharmacology and pharmacotherapy by enabling the integration of large, heterogeneous datasets to support precision and personalised medicine. However, the reliability of AI-assisted therapeutic decision-making depends fundamentally on the selection, quality, and interpretation of pharmacological and clinical input features or parameters. Current AI models frequently overlook the multidimensional complexity of drug- and patient-specific factors, limiting their clinical applicability and generalisability. Methods: This narrative review was

Texture analysis of pulmonary parenchymateous changes related to pulmonary thromboembolism in dogs - a novel approach using quantitative methods.

BACKGROUND: Diagnosis of pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) in dogs relies on computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA), but detailed interpretation of CTPA images is demanding for the radiologist and only large vessels may be evaluated. New approaches for better detection of smaller thrombi include dual energy computed tomography (DECT) as well as computer assisted diagnosis (CAD) techniques. The purpose of this study was to investigate the performance of quantitative texture analysis for detecting dogs with PTE using grey-level co-occurrence matrices (GLCM) and multivariate statistical c

Role of imaging in progressive-fibrosing interstitial lung diseases.

Imaging techniques are an essential component of the diagnostic process for interstitial lung diseases (ILDs). Chest radiography is frequently the initial indicator of an ILD, and comparison of radiographs taken at different time points can show the rate of disease progression. However, radiography provides only limited specificity and sensitivity and is primarily used to rule out other diseases, such as left heart failure. High-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) is a more sensitive method and is considered central in the diagnosis of ILDs. Abnormalities observed on HRCT can help identify s
