OBJECTIVE: Autoimmune polyendocrinopathy-candidiasis-ectodermal dystrophy syndrome (APECED) is a rare autosomal recessive systemic autoimmune disease caused by mutations in the autoimmune regulator (AIRE) gene. Incidence of this genetic disorder is estimated at 1/90,000-200,000 worldwide and 1/6500-9000 in genetically isolated populations such as Iran. Here, we investigated AIRE gene mutations in eight independent Iranian non-Jewish families.

Cryptococcal meningitis (CM), as a life-threatening opportunistic infection, often is among cases with cell-mediated immunodeficiencies, such as AIDS, hematologic malignancies, and solid organ transplant recipients. Cryptococcal meningitis in healthy individuals is uncommon, and its detection in immunocompetent cases may be tricky because the presentation is generally more indolent than the traditional meningitis presentation, leading to late diagnosis and potential sequels. We present a CM case in an immunocompetent Iranian male patient who was treated successfully.

Iran, which is regarded as an endemic region for brucellosis, ranks second in brucella prevalence in the world. Pulmonary involvement is a rare complication of brucellosis. In this article, we aimed to report a case of systemic brucellosis complicated with brucella pneumonia. ; Case Presentation: A 39-years-old man was referred to the emergency department with weakness, productive coughs and severe weight loss during 8 months. Agglutination tests for brucellosis showed high titers suggestive for brucella infection. After 6 days of treatment, the patients' clinical state improved significantly.

Mutations or altered expression of PRM1 gene have been associated with male infertility. This study aimed to analyse pathogenic variations of PRM1 gene in Iranian Arab infertile men with oligoasthenoteratozoospermia that was carried out for the first time in this population.
