On the basis of an experience with 1800 operations of endovideosurgical hernioplasty in patients with inguinal and femoral hernias, the authors analyze the frequency and character of complications after such operations. Complications were noted in 37 (2.05%) patients. The most frequent complication was injury of the vessels. It could be liquidated in all the cases using laparoscopic technology. A case of spontaneous rupture of uterine artery in the second trimester of pregnancy is described. Haemorrhage from rupture of uterine artery during pregnancy was discovered at laparotomy. A case of prenatally diagnosed intestinal obstruction caused by segmental dilatation of the jejunum is presented. Routine ultrasound scan showed mild polyhydramnios, a dilated small bowel loop, and scoliosis. On repeat ultrasound scan a volvulus was suspected, which led to cesarean section and laparotomy of the newborn, revealing the underlying pathology. Segmental resection and end-to-end anastomosis were followed by an uneventful recovery. Three patients, two women aged 21 and 67 and a man aged 43 years, presented at the emergency department with diabetic ketoacidosis and abdominal symptoms mimicking an acute abdominal condition. Partial extramural obstruction of the descending colon was diagnosed in two dogs and a cat as a complication of elective ovariohysterectomy. In each case, the obstruction was caused by fibrous tissue that encircled or crossed the descending colon, severely restricting the organ's normal mobility and luminal diameter. A 73 year-old female patient suffered from anemia and a palpable abdominal mass. Abdominal ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a lesion with papillary excrescences at the pancreatic tail. The patient, a five year-old girl, was admitted to hospital with physical and radiological signs of small bowel obstruction about two weeks after sustaining blunt abdominal trauma in a car accident. The schistosomiasis is an endemic disease in Brazil. The most frequent forms are: intestinal, hepatosplenic and hepatointestinal. Rare forms also manifest such as pseudo-tumoral form. Pregnancy in the rudimentary horn is rare and represents a form of ectopic gestation. Despite advances in ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis remains elusive, with confirmatory diagnosis being made at laparotomy. Five cases of primary fallopian tube carcinoma were located in 30 years retrospective study (1965-1994) from the Department of Pathology, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, Karnataka. Abnormal vaginal bleeding was the presenting symptom in all the cases. Pelvic mass was palpable in four cases. The diagnosis was not suspected preoperatively in any case. Eight patients with tuberculosis of the head of the pancreas were retrospectively reviewed. They were 4 men and 4 women (mean age 42.8 years). All patients complained of fever, sweating, fatigue, weight loss, and in the pain in the upper right belly. We present the case of a young woman who presented with abdominal pain and was found to have an enlarged spleen, located in the lower abdomen and pelvis. The possibility of lymphoma was entertained because of concomitant findings of thrombocytopenia and a possible mesenteric mass.
