INTRODUCTION: Neuroblastoma is the most common extra-cranial solid tumour in children. Metastasis in children to the upper cervical spine are quite rare.
CASE REPORT: An 8-year-old boy was referred to our service following a relapse of a right adrenal stage 4 neuroblastoma with a metastatic deposit in C2. This anterior tumour mass was pressing on the spinal cord with increasing pain in the base of skull, but without gross neurological deficit. He underwent urgent MRI and CT scans and then emergent surgery. The first stage was a posterior stabilization from occiput to C5 with a posterior decom

Malignant melanoma has been reported to affect all organs of the human body with the metastasis. Stomach metastases are quite rare in cases of the most commonly reported primaries including, melanoma and breast, and lung carcinomas. This report involves, a 56-year-old man suffering from melanoma of the lower extremity that developed into gastric, pulmonary, and brain metastases. The patient who experienced epigastric pain with suspicious melanoma was referred to undergo endoscopy. A black and white ulcer with dimensions of 1 × 1.5 cm and a mass of 1 × 2 cm mass were found at D1 and lesser curv

Drug-related skin disorders may occur in many different ways. Despite pigmentary changes being less important for morbidity, these changes precipitate depressed mood and reduce self-confidence. Testosterone is a steroid hormone from the androgen group and primarily used for the treatment of hypogonadism in males. Testosterone replacement can cause skin problems like acne, hair loss, redness, pain, or infection at the injection site. The study was conducted on a 49-year-old man with adult onset idiopathic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, which is an acquired form of isolated gonadotropin-releasin

Endoscopic ultrasonography with fine needle infusion (EUS-FNI) of alcohol is the most reported method for EUS-guided tumor ablation. Several studies have reported successful EUS-guided ablation of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. However, these tumors have been relatively small (< 3 cm). In this report, a 50-year-old man with a metastatic carcinoid tumor with a large porta hepatis mass was referred to our clinic for EUS-guided ethanol ablation. After two separate EUS-FNI ablations, there was a 36 % reduction in tumor size (9.0 × 11.4 cm to 6.7 × 9.8 cm) with associated tumor lysis syndrome. C

Congenital clubfoot is a heterogeneous disorder that can result in functional disability, deformity, and pain if left untreated. Although the etiology is considered multifactorial in the majority of cases, a 17q23.1–q23.2 duplication has been reported in families with congenital clubfoot characterized by variable expressivity and incomplete penetrance. The candidate gene within the duplicated region is TBX4, a T-box transcription factor required for normal hind limb development. We describe a familial 2.15 Mb duplication in the 17q23.1–q23.2 region identified in a mother, daughter, and two son

We report a case of a female patient aged 46 years with a history of nodular goiter for which she had a subtotal thyroidectomy 31 years ago. She was referred to the emergency department of our hospital because of dyspnea and chest pain for 20 days, then developed cyanosis and edema of the head and upper extremities. Chest X-ray revealed tracheal repulsion. Cervical and thoracic computed tomography showed a giant solid and a cystic mass in the anterior mediastinum and bilateral pleural effusion. The neck ultrasound did not show any thyroid masses. An exploratory thoracotomy with extensive resec

We report a case of hypercalcemia in a female patient who was restarted on hemodialysis 22 years after renal transplantation. Graft biopsy showed chronic post-transplant nephropathy. Treatment with immunosuppressants and steroids was maintained owing to residual graft function. She was then given oral paracalcitol 1 µg/d for secondary hyperparathyroidism (iPTH 850 pg/mL) and her transplant medication was reduced and then discontinued. After this, the patient referred widespread joint pain, especially in the hips and subsequently presented with erythema nodosum. She also developed hypercalcemia

BACKGROUND: The keratocystic odontogenic tumour (KCOT), formerly known as the odontogenic keratocyst, is a benign intra-osseous odontogenic tumour. The KCOT is characterised by a potential for locally destructive behaviour and a relatively high recurrence rate. Most KCOT are incidentally discovered as well-defined unilocular or multilocular radiolucencies on routine panoramic radiographs.
CASE REPORT: A 15-year-old boy was referred to dental care with a non-syndromic KCOT in the right angle of the mandible. Using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) as a diagnostic instrument for precise asse

An 83-year-old male with left chest pain and dyspnea was referred to our hospital. A left upper lung tumor(f3. 6 cm in diameter)and pleural effusion in enhanced thoracic CT with suspicion of malignant pleural effusion were pointed out in June, 2009. There were no swelling lymph nodes and distant metastases by various imaging methods. The diagnosis of pleuritis carcinomatosa was obtained by Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery(VATS). Intraoperative intrapleural hypotonic treatment was given at the same time. Cytology specimens revealed adenocarcinoma. We diagnosed Stage IV(cT2aN0M1a)adenocarcino- ma

UNLABELLED: We report the successful management of a rare case of bilateral post-laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) Fusarium oxysporum keratitis and propose a therapeutic strategy. A 19-year-old white man with no systemic diseases was referred to our emergency service 3 days after microkeratome-assisted myopic bilateral LASIK correction. He complained of blurred-vision, photophobia, and ocular pain. Clinical findings (satellite lesions, hypopyon) suggested fungal keratitis. Flaps were immediately lifted and rinsed with povidone-iodine 10%, and intensive topical and systemic and combined anti

A 29-year-old man presented with complaints of fever and pain and itching of his left neck with atopic dermatitis and abrasion. These symptoms had persisted for two days and dullness and fever developed, but the patient did not consult a physician. On the following day, he had a fever of 40°C and redness and swelling of the left neck. He visited a local clinic and was hospitalized with suspected cellulitis. A thrombus was detected in the internal jugular vein on MRI, and he was referred to our hospital. Neck ultrasonography showed the presence of an immovable thrombus in the area from the left

A 64-year-old woman was referred to our center presenting with thirst, malaise, and pain in both legs which occurred one week before admission. She was revealed to have hyperglycemia and diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). After therapy for diabetic ketoacidosis was started, her blood glucose levels were improved, but urinary ketone body excretion persisted. Laboratory examination indicated a significant impairment of insulin secretion, although anti-GAD and anti-IA-2 antibody were not detected. After admission, she complained about weakness of lower extremities, which spread to her upper extremities

The formation of an arterial pseudoaneurysm as a complication of ankle arthroscopy is extremely rare, with a reported incidence of 0.008%. Pseudoaneurysm is especially unlikely after ankle arthroscopy by means of standard anteromedial and anterolateral portals. In this report, we describe a case of a pseudoaneurysm of the anterior tibial artery detected 2 weeks after ankle arthroscopy in a 63-year-old woman. The diagnosis was confirmed with a Doppler ultrasonography scan of the right ankle, after which the patient was referred to an interventional radiologist, who performed an angiogram. Endov

Arthritis could be a presenting feature of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) and could be wrongly diagnosed as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA). Clinical and laboratory parameters might differentiate ALL and JRA in children who present with arthritis. Out of a total of 250 children of ALL, 10 were referred to the department of child health and paediatric haemato-oncology of Christian Medical College, Vellore during 1990-2002. They were compared with 10 age-matched children who had systematic onset of JRA. The age groups in ALL and JRA were 6.05 +/- 2.45 years and 5.47 +/- 4.4 years respec

Objective. We report a rare and unusual case of bronchial carcinoma presenting with symptoms of complications of sinonasal disease. Case Report. A 66-year-old lady was referred with a 1-week history of progressive ocular pain, chemosis, and visual disturbance. Computed tomography of the paranasal sinuses revealed frontal and ethmoidal sinus opacification with orbital involvement consistent with a diagnosis of orbital cellulitis secondary to sinusitis. Surgical exploration revealed that the sinuses and right orbit were filled with soft tissue and subsequent histopathological examination of the

INTRODUCTION: Composite tumors of the adrenal medulla or paraganglia are extremely rare and present a diagnostic dilemma. These tumors consist of a neuroendocrine component mixed with a neural component. We describe the imaging characteristics together with the corresponding pathological findings of a composite tumor. Apart from any component-specific imaging findings, the hallmark of this entity is the presence of histologically distinguishable components.
