Toward a mechanistic understanding of false news sharing: Which interventions work best, for whom, and why.

False news-given its capacity to distort public opinion and erode trust-has prompted extensive research on potential countermeasures. Yet, there has been no systematic, comparative, and computational investigation of false news sharing and how best to curb it. To address this gap, we apply a semi-integrative experimental approach that (a) compares multiple existing false news interventions, (b) examines how individual and news-level factors predict false news sharing and shape intervention efficacy, and (c) uses drift-diffusion modeling to uncover the decision-making processes underlying all t

Parents' Experiences From Participating in an Online Peer Support Child Feeding Intervention: The "PICNIC Sweden" Explanatory Sequential Mixed Methods Feasibility Study.

BACKGROUND: Parents' feeding practices play a role in shaping children's dietary patterns, which influence chronic disease risk. Feeding children is challenging, so parents need guidance and support. Parents In Child Nutrition Informing Community (PICNIC) is an Australian program that promotes responsive child feeding using dietitian-led training and online communication, then facilitates peer-to-peer information sharing within parents' social networks. OBJECTIVE: This pilot study aimed to test the feasibility, acceptability, appropriateness, and perceived impact of PICNIC with Swedish parent

Methcathinone disrupts glycerophospholipid metabolism and selectively activates the p38/COX-2 axis to induce anxiety-like behaviour in zebrafish.

Methcathinone, a synthetic cathinone derivative, is an emerging contaminant in aquatic environments, raising concerns about its neurotoxic effects on aquatic organisms. However, the fundamental molecular mechanisms underlying its anxiogenic and behavioural effects remain unclear. Here, adult zebrafish were administered sublethal doses of methcathinone intraperitoneally for three consecutive days, and behavioural changes were assessed using the novel tank, mirror attack, and social preference tests. Integrated metabolomic and transcriptomic analyses were conducted on brain tissues, followed by

Exploring ferroptosis: Unraveling its potential role in autistic spectrum disorder.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a diverse neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by ambiguous etiological mechanisms and the absence of recognized disease-modifying pharmacotherapies. Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent and lipid peroxidation-driven mechanism of regulated cell death, has been associated with neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration, prompting interest in its potential role in ASD. This narrative review consolidates from molecular and clinical studies, animal models, and in vitro systems to assess ferroptosis as a candidate mechanistic pathway, biomarker source, and therapeutic t

Investigating global gender gap in lip and oral cavity cancer: A population-based study.

INTRODUCTION: Lip and oral cavity cancer (LOC) is typically male predominant, yet in several countries women experience a comparable or even higher burden. Quantifying gender differences in LOC and their social determinants is essential for equitable cancer control. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We analysed Global Burden of Disease 2021 estimates for LOC from 1990 to 2021 across 204 countries and territories. Gender disparities were assessed using the Female-to-Male disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) ratio. Temporal trends were evaluated using estimated annual percentage change (EAPC), and forec

Integrating occupational cancer detection into hospital care? An intervention research to improve blood cancer patient care in France (GISCOPE 84).

SETTING: While carcinogenic exposures affect half of European workers, occupational cancers remain strongly underreported. In France, the occupational diseases (OD) compensation system is ill-adapted for cancer patients, leaving work-related cancers socially and politically invisible. The identification of patients with occupational cancer and their support in compensation claims are neglected aspects of cancer care. INTERVENTION: Since 2018, GISCOPE 84 runs a two-tiered intervention: 1. A cohort-like survey with blood cancer (non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and myeloma) patients diagnosed at the Vauc

Health-related quality of life after orbital exenteration for COVID-19-associated rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis in South India: a cross-sectional SF-36 study and systematic review.

PURPOSE: Rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis (ROCM) surged during the COVID-19 pandemic, often necessitating orbital exenteration for disease control. While survival outcomes are increasingly reported, long-term health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among survivors remains poorly characterized, particularly in low- and middle-income settings. This study evaluated HRQoL using the SF-36 among survivors of COVID-19-associated ROCM who underwent orbital exenteration. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, adult survivors of orbital exenteration for COVID-19-associated ROCM treated at a tertiary

Lesion visibility and localization as predictors of social appearance anxiety in Pemphigus vulgaris: a case-control study.

Pemphigus vulgaris (PV), a chronic autoimmune blistering disorder, frequently affects highly visible regions such as the face, scalp, and upper body, potentially altering body image and increasing social appearance anxiety (SAA). The psychosocial pathways linking lesion visibility and localization to SAA, however, remain insufficiently examined. This analytical cross-sectional casecontrol study compared SAA levels between 150 PV patients with visible lesions and 150 age- and sex-matched controls, and explored associations between SAA and illness perception, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, a

Secondhand Smoke Exposure Among University Students in the United Arab Emirates: Knowledge as a Correlate of Protective Behavior-A Cross-Sectional Study.

Secondhand smoke exposure (SHSE) remains a major environmental health risk among university students, particularly in socially shared settings. In the United Arab Emirates, culturally embedded practices such as shisha and midwakh use, combined with variable policy enforcement, sustain persistent exposure. This cross-sectional study examined SHSE-related knowledge and protective health behaviors among 360 university students and their sociodemographic correlates, using a self-report questionnaire with documented internal consistency in comparable populations. Data were analyzed using SPSS versi

Experiences of families using an early example of a neighbourhood multidisciplinary care team for children and young people in Birmingham, UK: a qualitative exploration of acceptability.

INTRODUCTION: In the United Kingdom, the National Health Service is attempting to address the increasing prevalence of chronic conditions, including obesity, and mental ill health among children and young people (CYP) by creating neighbourhood multi-disciplinary teams (NMDTs). These challenges to the health and well-being of CYP are particularly pronounced amongst underserved populations and it is expected that combining health services and social care services can help address these ongoing inequalities. Despite this significant shift in the delivery of care, there is a lack of robust evidenc

Fatigue in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease: Explained by transdiagnostic and disease-focused factors.

OBJECTIVE: Fatigue is highly prevalent in children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), even during clinical remission. This suggests a role for transdiagnostic factors-lifestyle, psychological, and social influences not specific to the disease. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of severe fatigue in pediatric IBD and evaluate its associations with both IBD-focused and transdiagnostic factors. METHODS: Children with IBD ages 8-18 from the PROactive cohort completed the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory-Multidimensional Fatigue Scale. IBD-focused clinical data were extracted from el
