BACKGROUND: Ruptures of the patellar tendon are rare injuries. Surgical treatment for this injury is mandatory.
HYPOTHESIS: Gap formation does not differ between the three patellar tendon repair techniques.
STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study.
METHODS: Twelve fresh-frozen cadaveric knees were used to compare three techniques of patellar tendon repairs. The standard suture repair used two Krackow sutures placed in the avulsed patellar tendon, passed through transpatellar drill holes, and secured with the knee in 30 degrees of flexion. In the second group, suture repair was augmented wi

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The Homburg cross-stitch marker, according to Suffo, was developed in 2017 in the Department of Ophthalmology at Saarland University Medical Center. With this instrument, a surgeon can precisely define and mark the points of the first and second continuous cross-stitch sutures, according to Hoffmann. The aim of this retrospective study was to compare the functional outcomes of Hoffmann's double continuous cross-stitch suture in penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) with vs without the Homburg cross-stitch marker in inexperienced surgeons.
METHODS: A total of 130 eyes from

OBJECTIVE: In elective surgery, it is well documented that a midline laparotomy should be closed with a slowly absorbable monofilament suture material in a continuous technique, in a ratio of at least 4 : 1. The evidence concerning the suture material or suturing technique in the emergency setting is lacking. We aimed to investigate whether this technique would reduce the rate of dehiscence.
METHODS: A standardized procedure of closing the midline laparotomy by using a "small steps" technique of continuous suturing with a slowly absorbable (polydioxanone) suture material in a wound-suture rat

BACKGROUND: Bucket-handle meniscus tears (BHMT) are often displaced and unstable. The inside-out technique of repairing such tears is currently the gold standard. All-inside repair with meniscal fixators is getting increasingly popular. Shortcomings of the inside-out technique include neurovascular complications, especially saphenous nerve palsy, and retention of a non-resorbable suture which can result in discomfort to patient, granuloma formation, and a foci of infection. Hence, the purpose of this project was to innovate a novel all-inside technique to precisely reduce and fix BHMT while av

OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy of subcutaneous suture reapproximation alone with suture plus subcutaneous drain for the prevention of wound complications in obese women undergoing cesarean delivery.
METHODS: We conducted a multicenter randomized trial of women undergoing cesarean delivery. Consenting women with 4 cm or more of subcutaneous thickness were randomized to either subcutaneous suture closure alone (n = 149) or suture plus drain (n = 131). The drain was attached to bulb suction and removed at 72 hours or earlier if output was less than 30 mL/24 h. The primary study outcome was a

Bony Bankart fractures treated arthroscopically with conventional suture anchor fixation are often complicated by fragment displacement and nonunion because of inadequate reduction. This technical report introduces a novel technique using the long head of the biceps (LHB) tendon transfer for elevating bony fragment and augmenting suture anchor fixation. By repositioning the LHB beneath the glenoid fragment, the tendon acts as a dynamic sling, stabilizing the bony fragment during suture anchor fixation. The procedure involves diagnostic arthroscopy, LHB tenotomy and braiding, fragment preparati

This is a review and synthesis of several different studies over a 25-year period on growth of the rabbit snout. Included are growth of the nasal bone region, cellular activity of the cartilaginous nasal septum, growth at the frontonasal suture, growth of the snout after resection of the frontonasal suture, and growth of the snout after resection of the cartilaginous nasal septum in both young and adult rabbits. Each experiment contributed different knowledge to factors important in rabbit snout growth. The frontonasal suture is a site of rapid growth, as much as 1 cm in 4 weeks. However, afte

A colposcopic examination is made of uterine cervix 3 to 4 months after delivery to 629 women divided into 4 groups: with Caesarian section and vaginal delivery without cervical rupture after inspection, with suture and without suture after cervical rupture. Higher incidence and severe colposcopic changes in the uterine cervix were found in unsutured cervical ruptures after delivery. Suturing of the cervical ruptures after delivery reduces these changes by 25 per cent. For this reason the author recommends cervical inspection and suturing of the existing cervical ruptures after every delivery.

BACKGROUND: Patellar tendon ruptures require surgical repair to optimize outcomes, but no consensus exists regarding the ideal repair technique. Cortical button fixation is a secure method for tendon repair that has not been studied in patellar tendons.
HYPOTHESIS: Cortical button repair is biomechanically superior to the standard transpatellar repair and biomechanically equivalent to suture anchor repair.
STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study.
METHODS: Twenty-three fresh-frozen cadaveric knees were used to compare 3 techniques of patellar tendon repair after a simulated rupture at the

BACKGROUND: Pectoralis major ruptures are closely associated with weight lifting and participation in sports. The anatomy of the pectoralis major tendon is unique with an elongated thin footprint requiring multiple points of fixation to restore the native anatomy. Multiple options exist for tendon repairs, but the strongest construct has yet to be identified.
PURPOSE: The intent of this study was to compare the load to failure of bone trough, cortical button, and suture anchor repairs of the pectoralis major tendon in the extended and abducted position.
STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory st

OBJECTIVES: Single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) and robotic SILS (rSILS) have been found to be safe, minimally invasive techniques in gynaecology. However, one major perceived drawback of these techniques is the increased risk of incisional hernia, compared to multiport laparoscopy or robotic surgery. This study's aim was to determine the optimal technique to reduce postoperative incisional complications such as hernia.
METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was performed at an academic centre from November 2014 to June 2022 on 1036 women who underwent SILS and rSILS gynaecologic proce

Aortic annuloplasty has been clearly demonstrated to have a protective influence in aortic valve repair. Over the past 20 years, different annuloplasty concepts have been proposed by different groups. However, the most appropriate approach to enable long-term annular stability remains highly controversial. The aim of this article is to give a general overview of all types of aortic annuloplasty, particularly focusing on the use of an external Teflon ring, as proposed by our group. In this technique, external root dissection is performed in the same fashion as for reimplantation; the only diffe

BACKGROUND: Achilles sleeve avulsion, a relatively rare disorder, is characterized by sleeve-shaped injury extending from the calcaneus, located near the tendon insertion site. Unlike midsubstance tears of the Achilles tendon, end-to-end repair is difficult because less soft tissue is preserved distally. Open repair with transosseous sutures or suture anchors is currently favored. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the technical feasibility and functional outcomes of ultrasonography-guided Achilles sleeve avulsion repair.
METHODS: From November 2009 to April 2018, 21 patients with Achi
