We describe a case of right eye tubercular (TB) panuveitis with corneal involvement where repeated intraocular sampling was unsuccessful. Finally, evisceration and histopathology of ocular tissue confirmed the diagnosis of ocular tuberculosis. A chest X-ray showed signs of pulmonary TB. The patient was lost to follow-up but reported 2 months later with the right eyelid margin nodules with surface ulceration. Both eyelid and pulmonary lesions were resolved with anti-TB therapy.

Reporting 4 cases of laryngeal tuberculosis seen between 1992 and 1998 in La Rioja Community. All were men tobacco addicted and alcoholism and since several months presented with dysphonia, odynophagia, dysphagia and lung aspirations. The lesions were localized in epiglottis, vocal fold, back commisure and the subglottic space. Primary complex was pulmonary. All of them were successfully treated with tuberculostsatic drugs, except one who remain with pulmonary aspirations because of a severed epiglottis.

BACKGROUND: During tuberculosis treatment, multiple chest computed tomography (CT) scans are required for follow-up, each with an effective radiation dose (ED) of approximately 7 mSv. If treatment outcomes are poor or complications arise, additional scans may be necessary, thereby increasing the cumulative radiation burden. This study aimed to evaluate the effects on image quality of low-dose CT using spectral purification technology, in combination with varying levels of sinogram-affirmed iterative reconstruction (SAFIRE) algorithms, with the goal of identifying the optimal SAFIRE level for i

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) accounts for 85% of all reported tuberculosis cases globally. Extrapulmonary involvement can occur in isolation or along with a pulmonary focus as in the case of patients with disseminated tuberculosis (TB). EPTB can occur through hematogenous, lymphatic, or localized bacillary dissemination from a primary source, such as PTB and affects the brain, eye, mouth, tongue, lymph nodes of neck, spine, bones, muscles, skin, pleura, pericardium, gastrointestinal, peritoneum and the genitourinary system as primary and/or disseminated disease. Although pulmonary

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) patients co-infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) often lack the classic symptoms of pulmonary tuberculosis, making the diagnosis difficult. Current practices in resource-limited settings often indicate that these co-infected patients are diagnosed when they clinically manifest disease symptoms, resulting in a delayed diagnosis and despite continued transmission. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of undiagnosed pulmonary tuberculosis cases through active case finding and including multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) among HIV-infected pat

INTRODUCTION: Total elbow arthroplasty (TEA) is an orthopedic procedure that is relatively infrequently performed, but its use has been increasing over time. Infection remains one of the most concerning complications after TEA, although Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB) as a microbial etiology, is extremely rare. Here, we present a case of M. tuberculosis infection after TEA.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 45-year-old woman underwent TEA for severe traumatic arthritis of the elbow following failure of conservative treatment. Four months after TEA, the patient experienced progressive elbow pain and swellin

BACKGROUND The L1-2 vertebral segment is the most common site of spinal tuberculosis. Traditional thoracoabdominal surgery in this segment risks trauma and complications. This study analyzed the surgical efficacy of the subdiaphragmatic extraperitoneal approach in the treatment of L1-2 spinal tuberculosis. MATERIAL AND METHODS Retrospective analysis of 67 patients with L1-2 vertebral tuberculosis who underwent posterior internal fixation was performed: 35 patients underwent the subdiaphragmatic extraperitoneal approach (group A) and 32 underwent the thoracoabdominal approach (group B). Vaccination with Mycobacterium bovis bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) remains the only prophylactic vaccine against tuberculosis, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, but gives variable protection against pulmonary disease. The generation of host Th1 responses following BCG vaccination is accepted as the major mechanism of protection against M. tuberculosis infection. Early production of IL-17 in the lungs following M. tuberculosis challenge of mice previously vaccinated with M. tuberculosis peptides in adjuvant has been shown to be required for efficient Th1 cell recruitment. IL-10 regulates v

BACKGROUND: Ocular tuberculosis (OTB) is a great masquerader and may occur without pulmonary symptoms, making its diagnosis challenging. In endemic regions like Malaysia, clinicians should consider OTB in patients with unexplained posterior segment ocular lesions. This report describes presumptive OTB with underlying tuberculous lymphadenitis in a healthcare professional; however, the source of tuberculosis (TB) exposure could not be established.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 36-year-old primary care physician with 12 years of clinical experience presented with a 1-day history of sudden wavy line visio

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is one of the top 10 leading causes of death in the world. Multi-drug resistant TB can lead to short-term and long-term sequelae causing clinical, psychosocial, and financial burden on the diseased. Pregnancy in a woman with compromised pulmonary function is a challenge for the treating obstetrician. A multidisciplinary approach involving a respiratory physician, pre-conceptional counseling, and delivery at a tertiary care center can reduce maternal morbidity and mortality. Compliance with anti-tubercular treatment with regular follow-up can minimize the long term e

BACKGROUND: Planning for control of tuberculosis would need to screen and identify individuals susceptible to TB. Due to the weakness of immune system in diabetic patients, it is more likely for them to reactivate latent TB infection. Regarding the increasing number of diabetics in the community, in this study efforts have been made to estimate the frequency of individuals who have tuberculosis and diabetes mellitus (TB-DM) simultaneously, as it could help making preventive decisions to reduce TB in this part of Iran.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, 329 cases of confirmed TB patients we

A rare case of tuberculosis of axillary lymph nodes occurring with primary breast cancer is presented. A 78-year-old woman with no history of pulmonary tuberculosis was admitted to our hospital to undergo examination for a lump in her right breast. The tumor was in the upper outer quadrant of the right breast. On palpation, the tumor was 1.2 cm in diameter and axillary lymph node swelling was noted. Mammography disclosed a spiculated mass and swelling and calcification of the axillary lymph nodes. Sonography showed an irregular hypoechoic mass in the right breast and lymph node swelling in the
