Ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA) of the lung was performed on 16 dogs and 3 cats with consolidated pulmonary lesions or masses identified on thoracic radiographs. The cytologic results from the FNA were confirmed by histopathology, response to treatment, or microscopic identification of Blastomyces organisms. A prospective longitudinal study in 75 growing cats was conducted to evaluate palatal soft-tissue expansion in cleft lip and palate surgery. The histopathologic, immunohistochemical and electronmicroscopic findings of four dysautonomic cats are presented. Taste buds and the papillae that carry them are trophically dependent upon an intact innervation. The number and size of fungiform papillae and the number of taste buds on their surface were determined 3 months after crushing or sectioning the combined trunk of the chorda tympani and lingual nerves. After crushing there were fewer fungiform papillae but their size and number of taste buds were similar to that on the unoperated side. After nerve section there were considerably fewer recognizable fungiform papillae on the operated side and each carried a reduced number of taste buds.

Records of 79 cats determined to have endometrial hyperplasia (EH) with or without pyometra or endometritis were studied. Forty-eight cats (61%) were spayed or died because of complications relating to reproductive tract disease.
