RATIONALE: Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) typically is an acute onset multi-organ infection caused by TSS toxin-1 producing Staphylococcus aureus. Herein we describe a highly unusual case report.

Variability in bacterial sterilization is a key feature of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) disease. In a population of human macrophages, there are macrophages that restrict Mtb growth and those that do not. However, the sources of heterogeneity in macrophage state during Mtb infection are poorly understood. OBJECTIVES: Stage III melanoma is associated with an increased risk of recurrence and death. Complete surgical resection remains the best chance for cure. Unfortunately, no adjuvant therapy has demonstrated a consistent improvement in melanoma-specific survival (MSS). We hypothesize that adjuvant granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) may improve clinical outcomes.

PURPOSE: Our previous phase II trial for treating human T-lymphotropic virus type I-associated adult T-cell leukemia-lymphoma (ATLL) with vincristine, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, and prednisone (VCAP), doxorubicin, ranimustine, and prednisone (AMP), and vindesine, etoposide, carboplatin, and prednisone (VECP) showed promising results. BACKGROUND: The hemopoietic stem cells increase in number during the regeneration after chemotherapy or bone marrow transplantation (BMT). Although the proportion of hemopoietic stem cells and their differentiation have been studied by immunophenotyping using the flow cytometry, no substantial research efforts have been directed toward the regenerating marrow. We attempted to discover the proportions of undifferentiated stem cells, committed stem cells, B cell precursors, and myeloid precursors in the regenerating bone marrows during complete remission (CR) and after engraftment of BMT.

Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a distinctive clinicopathologic entity and represents 2-8% of all non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. The median survival of patients with MCL is only 3 years, and none of the available conventional chemotherapy regimens appears curative.
